This weeks challenge was:
I was thinking along the idea of music for an advert. The kind of thing we may end up having to do exactly to spec for money. Must suit the product and be EXACTLY one minute long. The graphics are a woman twilling through a field of flowers with her hair flouncing around her (as these ads thend to do).  :D Attention must be given to the fadeout at the end - a quick fade, no sudden stops or abrupt cutoffs (as I've noticed with many entries lately. Product? Hmmm... a new shampoo and conditioner?
And here are the entries
Here's my entry - beginners category, the filename is B.RiaanDuvenage.100609.ShampooAd.mp3. Four tracks, a piano-ish kind of pad on Dimension Pro, nylon string acoustic, steelstring acoustic and clean electric, all done in Sonar 8 and Guitar Rig.  Don't know if it will sell shampoo...but here goes:
This was really challenging! I just managed to get mine done late last night! Better something than nothing!

I have stuck with just using a guitar as this is a guitarforum after all :)

Used an Ibanez SA08LTD through a Zoom G2.1U

Here it is http://gfsa.s3.amazonaws.com/581/Shampooooo%20Add.mp3

Beginner Category for me
This is the second piece from "The Grand Parade of Sleepless Hamsters". Takamine , effected with alternate tuning. Could sell Hamster hair products!

Well, it's LAME, but I guess that doesn't matter since it's a shampoo advert. I used the flute which is pretty close to a pan pipe WAH HA HA. http://www.box.net/shared/09czs8uyke

Here's my entry for the competition.

http://www.box.net/shared/cvorxhmey0

Seeing as I couldn't get the recording story working with GR3 and GTR I decided to replicate the effect as near as possible on the 505II.

Lead, Hondo LP: neck bucker with a delay / chorus patch on the 505II - stereo'd and inverted. Bass, Hondo LP: neck bucker with a cleaner, EQ'd patch on the 505II - stereo'd and inverted. Drums, Hydrogen: First time using hydrogen and with a little more time I'll be able to come up with a nice drum sound.

Starts slow and simple allowing for VOs and product description breaking out into a more up beat, inspiring riff for the final feel good factor and glam shots.

"Shampoo Ad I guess"

    Nice work, everyone.
Doh! Put myself in the advanced category out of habit. Hehehe! lets see how I do! ?
Spyke you are not in the advanced category you are in the unspecified category like the other entries that did not specify their preferred category. From here on out I put people in the category they tell me to  8)

Started the file name with 'A' but I see I left it out of the description - unspecified is fine by me! ?

I had a good long listen and this time I took notes. Here's what I thought and what images they conjured:Riaan, very nice and meadowy
Mattayou, great for something to do with water
Squonk, Sleepless hamsters wanting to sell me insurance or whiskey
Spyke, Made me think of an Urban scene
Andrew, Very lively and could be used for a field scene or introducing the news perhaps
Mine was so imbedded in my head that my alarm clock confused me this morning coz it wasn't an annoying flute.
Thanks Viccy, at least it might sell Whisky, 10 year old Glenhamster ?

At work I can download from every site in the world except GFSA and Box.net. Will have to download at Home.

Looks like Riaan, Viccy and Andrew have done well as always, cant wait to hear everyone's entries!
                Well, nice job to all!!

As someone who works in TV everyday of my life and has had to compose music for ads a few times I must say that Andrew.. You missed your calling!! Come write jingles with me.. ? I had to go with Viccy though.. She hit the nail on the head for shampoo..

Just from my side, Producers for ads would have placed the entries as follow:

Riaan: Family Safety, like Visonic International (did an ad for them a while ago and thats the type of track that all their competitors used)

Mattayou: A split between a mid ranged car ad and Johnny Walker (it would become a car ad with a big drum track coming in about halfway)

Squonk: Family health, small kids.. I can already see the Labrador chewing a small childs shoe!!

Viccy: Thats hair all the way!

Spyke: CAAARRRSSS!!! But more to the SUV type transport.. Mazda would go for it.

AJB: Quite a few products.. It would have worked as an intro theme for a TV show aswell.

But these opinions are only mine :-[ I however did not enter, due to a number of reasons.. My family was here, I was scared that someone might do a better job than me and then I'll be out of a job, I'm lazy, I might be awesome.. LOL (which ever one suites, you're allowed to choose that description of me ? )
                  Very Good entries

I wont comment on them all as Viccy and Neps have done that already.

Andrew - "we are not worthy" as Wayne said, brilliant production and playing ?
Spyke - Good stuff and the drums are good. I can hear "The Cure" in this weeks recording.
Riaan, Viccy, Matt all good stuff.

These weekly comps are brilliant. I almost have an album of one minute tunes to put together.

@ Neps thanks for the input, but would like to hear you more often. Must still do that John Mayer trio thing one day.

@ Alan - What happened to your entry? ?
                    Good stuff everyone!

While I'd love to say "I thought I'd give someone else a chance", I'd be lying through my teeth. ? The simple truth is I couldn't make time this week, in fact I've barely played at all.
Sounds like you're suffering from the same time-compression syndrome I am ?
Neps wrote: Well, nice job to all!!

Hahahaha! Now we see who pays attention to what ads! ?

Thanks for the feedback Squonk. Tried something new(ish).

That would be true if I had a tv
Well done guys.. As soon as my recorder is ready, I'll also try and enter
Well done everyone and thanks for the comments and feedback. It's really interesting to see how everyone interpreted this and what we all came up with. All will make good ads I think! This was fun!
                                @ Riaan

Trying to break the thread record for votes? ?
As Mark Knopfler sings: "It's a mystery to me..." ?
Unfortunately Riaan I didn't give you much competition this week ? sorry!

And what have you got at the end of the day ?
What have you got to take away ?
A bottle of whisky and a new set of lies
Blinds on the window and a pain behind the eyes

Riaan at least there's a bottle of Whiskey.... ?

                                      The game commences...
Agree with Neps......Viccy nailed it....... :woohoo:

Andrew.....Awesome production.....have to call you Awesome Andrew from now on..... ? ?
