tl:dr : SAPO & Wish signed a "strategic partnership"

, the company will be working directly with the Post Office to create a more consistent and efficient experience for its customers. These will include benefits such as:

Average 50%+ faster transit times.
End-to-end tracking visibility and delivery confirmation.
Customers to receive bundled shipments for multiple items.
SMS and physical notifications on deliveries awaiting collection.

BusinessTech tested Takealot, Wish and Shein by ordering a product through all three services in the second week of May. All three deliveries were scheduled for delivery to BusinessTech’s offices in Midrand.

The biggest surprise comes from Wish, which had scheduled delivery at the end of August.

Despite this long wait time, Wish sent an email notifying that the parcel had been delivered at the local post office on 26 May – just two weeks after it was initially ordered.

While the visit to the post office was slightly out of the way, the collection process was easy. After being asked to pay and additional R60 for clearance, the package was handed over neatly wrapped in black plastic.

YMWV (your mileage will vary!) - but kinda promising - there are a few teeny things I would like to try & get - but shipping usually makes it near pointless but this is promising? (assuming I get the right thing delivered...ermmm)

Lead times aren't the issue. Theft is. Many South Africans would be very happy to wait as long as their goods came through unscathed. Wish has seen an open door because so many suppliers now refuse to ship to SA (just trawl through eBay listings as an example) as a result of all the claims for undelivered goods. To get around the theft threat by having a tracking number that is worth anything, you have to select more expensive shipping options, which makes getting stuff here from overseas unviable for all but the expensive items. It is telling that our airports' response to theft from luggage was to allow third parties to sell you bag wraps. I'm cynical because I've suffered repeat parcel thefts, sure, but the main problem isn't going away with this Wish deal. We're being asked to celebrate a special deal whose "benefits" should be the norm for the post office's service via any supplier.

Bluetone One of the comments in the mybroadband forum thread that got me laughing "SAPO employee's does their xmas shopping from the Wish packages" 😁

      They're a positive bunch at +/- 8% thinking it's a good thing.

Recently there was thing I did need, a tiny part, but wish had it. I might just give it a try now that the deal went through - worst thing, I get nothing and cancel the transaction.
