  • The "You can thank me later" Playlist.

I've recently had a, let's say, back and forth with a individual regarding our favourite and what we consider the most impressive musical performances are on the tubes.

This had me thinking. I want to create a playlist that reeks of awe and inspiration that will blow away anyone that listens to it.

I will post my top 3 picks, or what's at the top of my head, and will ask others to do the same.

Let's dig up some musical gold. Some of you might have seen my suggestions, but here we go.

Number 1
My number one spot has to go to the live performance of Snarky Puppy's Lingus.
At first the pure musicianship impressed me. A room of 30 odd musicians all playing a very complex song from memory and feel. Then the keys player shows off some amazing chops that literally left me emotionally tired after listening to it (it's a good tired).
After listening to this performance many a time I realised that between all the flashy soloing that the drumming was flawless and incredibly tasteful. Apparently the drummer's flight was delayed so he couldn't even rehearse beforehand. He's now one of my favourites,

Number 2
As a bassist I just had to include Vulpeck Live a Madison playing Dean Town at 118 BPM, 9 BPM faster than the already blazing speed of 109. 109 might not sound that fast, but keep in mind that the bass is basically taking the lead on a funk groove that dances all over the neck.

Number 3
My final entry is something that you have probably heard before. The hard hitting vocals from Corey Taylor, the efficient recording chops from the team under the direction of Mr Grohl and the amazing solo from Rick Nielson makes this one of my favourite performances to date.

Rick Nielson made this song for me. Dropping a pick mid solo and making it look like it was all part of the plan. So much chaos with such control.

Nice choices! I think that would be Larnell Lewis, yes. Just an incredible player. And I love Back Pocket from that Madison Square Garden show. Outstanding.

Bluetone Correct, that'll be Larnell with Cory Henry on the keys. Amazing players

Super cool idea! Two thumbs up, gonna have fun thinking up a few examples. You've already stolen one of my more recent ones (Vulfpeck @ MSG).

All the Martin Miller medleys are crazy good i.m.o (all filmed in a single take), but I love highway star in this one.

Nice - I love those Martin Miller medleys too!

From my side, I know the world has kinda moved on from the solo acoustic fingerstyle guitarist fad like it's moved on from man buns or answering calls from numbers beginning with 087, but I still love Antoine Dufour's blend of rhythmic elements and melody.

Also, I love Kent Nishimura's work:

Took me a while to remember one! I had to think of my (current) fav guitarist - Derek Trucks. And then I remembered this performance, think that big audience sound is something special live. Their NPR concert is also good - but the complete opposite feel.

SRV "Life without You" Live - No video, sorry. Wish there was video - for now we'll have to imagine stevie-McGuitarFace 😁

There's a jimi tune escaping me - one live version that hooked me. We'll see if it finds me.

@Ruan - you sharing this playlist or do we have to like and subscribe 😁

        hey guys/Meron

really nice thread going 😃 before I comment and chime in on the (excellent) additions so far, and before daily life side tracks me, I wanted to weigh in with my 3, that just happens to be all Jimi 😃

        ''Voodoo Chile' live at Berkley

'Killing floor' at Monterey - Hendrix's estate seems to have alot of his material locked down on Youtube but this person's cover should give a good representation 😀

        'Purple Haze' at Woodstock

V8 @Ruan - you sharing this playlist or do we have to like and subscribe 😁

I'll pop through the playlist after a bit =D

Bluetone From my side, I know the world has kinda moved on from the solo acoustic fingerstyle guitarist fad like it's moved on from man buns or answering calls from numbers beginning with 087

Let me match that stereotype 😉

I still visit this video every so often. It is one of those instrumentals that always manages to draw me in emotionally for the entire ride. A great demonstration of what a 11 string can do.
