tldr; Fender sold more guitars in 2020 than at any other time in history,

Who said rock is dead? The guitar certainly isn’t. Fender has reported it will sell more guitars in 2020 than any other year in its history. Other leading manufactures such as Gibson, Taylor, and Martin have also seen sales spike this year.

To put Fender’s sheer numbers into perspective, the company’s “Fender Play” instructional app saw its user base increase to 930,000 from 150,000 between late March and late June. Twenty percent of the new users were under 24, and 70-percent under 45

Saying guitar music is dead has been a vogue statement for think pieces attempting to overanalyze the musical zeitgeist over the past decade.

This last statement made me think of Stud's comment on the last time I posted a "Guitar is Dead" article, he was slightly more scatching than I was but -> it's something to read, but the reality...no other instrument is as versatile and portable. Nope, not even a set of dj decks and a watermelon keyboard 😛

hey Meron 😃 hope you're having a good week. I came across this story as well in an email in my inbox https://www.guitarplayer.com/news/fender-posts-record-breaking-sales-in-2020
its really great that it has'nt just been Fender thats seen this spike. other manufacturers too. i really just think no other instrument can match the fun factor of these 6 (or 7 or 8) strings, definitely a not set of decks and a watermelon keyboard 😄

All good, always better when the sun shines in Cpt?

What's interesting to me is the bump in Fender Play sub's...my very rough guesstimate is around 10% follow through - that is, around 10% of beginners actually continue playing guitar after the "it's new and shiny" wears off and the hard work starts.

So I'm waiting for the great sell off - chatting to the junkies we're reckoning Jan/Feb next year for all the toys bought during corona times to come up for sale 🦹
