Und zo, the bagpiper, penny whistler AND guitarist wins it! Well done @Meticus, talent and consistency! Your neighbors must hate you, but we all appreciate your efforts! ::

With that YOU get the dubious and questionable honour of choosing the next challenge topic.

My favourite three tracks were,..
Warren's Lockdown Jam #2 -it's close to what I was trying. For sure, got that Chuck Berry, Johnny B. Goode vibe from this one too!

Meticus's Jaunt through the reggae forest - I dug how the melody and instrument transformed it from a djent breakdown to a more cultured 70's rock fusion. Classy!

Guido's rocking reggae - I thought it would be hard to fit a guitar in there...but well done for getting a damn fine rock solo in there, that was super cool!

Thanks to all who submitted a backing track, entered, listened and voted - Hope it kept a little bit of your day(s) of lockdown creative!

Well done guys! Quite a close call in the end, these were a lot of fun to listen to. I was cheering from the sidelines here, I'm sorry I sat this one out, maybe things will be a bit more normal once lockdown lifts.

V8 Und zo, the bagpiper, penny whistler AND guitarist wins it! Well done @Meticus

Hah, that's cool 😄 I haven't won a single challenge, but now I'm the overall lockdown champion 😅
Obviously tenacity is more important than talent 😆

I think I read something of a prize suggested by @Yeti , a toilet roll??
Due to environmental issues I'd also accept a digital version, as jpg in this thread 😃

Thanks and praise to all who took part in this competition in any way. That was a lot of fun and along the way generated great musical legacy for future generations.

V8 Your neighbors must hate you

One day they'll get a lot of money for giving interviews about their time living next door to Meticus, the lockdown challenge winner 😁

V8 With that YOU get the dubious and questionable honour of choosing the next challenge topic.

Oh, that's not easy. I'm still a newbie to this forum and don't know the challenge history or common requirements for those events.

Spontaneous idea: the opposite of the previous challenge.
I invented a short tune for my bagpipe last week. I could re-record it with a metronome and without the drone and the challenge could be to use it as a lead track and make a short song out of it by adding chords, background guitar, bass guitar, a second lead track, drums, other instruments, singing or whatever.

Of course other members could provide lead tracks as well, such as guitar solos, other instruments or even vocals. Then there would be a variety. What do you think? Or any other suggestions?

Here's the example tune. I called it "Regentanz" = "rain dance" (to dance in the rain or to make it rain, according to individual needs xD).
Just uploaded the first try, I'd make a greater effort for the re-record xD
(would be interesting if it could be transformed into a metal version since I do not have an electric guitar)

Congratulations to the second and all the following winners ;-)
It was an honor to make music with you!

Meticus Due to environmental issues I'd also accept a digital version, as jpg in this thread 😃

WHEW! Thanks for letting me off the hook. At this exchange rate, shipping to Europe would bankrupt me.
... so here's your prize. This is what passes for high class bogroll in South Africa

Yeti so here's your prize. This is what passes for high class bogroll in South Africa

WOW! Thank you very much! Looks very soft and comfortable!
I truly enjoy the imagination of using it! 😄

well done all round to everyone that submitted entries. good job @Meticus on coming out on top 😃

Yeti This is what passes for high class bogroll in South Africa

...duuuude, it ain't triple ply. 😉 But I think is okay, if you can play bagpipes, you're surely used to roughing it. 😆

Meticus and don't know the challenge history or common requirements for those events.

Fair point - generally we come up with a topic/idea and run from there. Generally the most popular ones leave a lot open to interpretation (e.g. genre) or they feature a creative challenge in a popular genre (write a catchy rock riff). Historically , rock, blues and singer/songwriter are the most popular genre's 'round here.

Happy to go with the backing track idea - but I reckon there isn't going to be a lot of peeps attempting it - it's a tad niche. (Yes, I'm being slightly nice 😄 )

Outside the coronavirus context one could think we all submitted such sh*t that the only appropriate prize could be a pack of toilet paper 😃

Ok, an idea to come up with a suitable challenge topic: the forum veterans suggest topics they would like to attempt and then I use my power as lockdown challenge winner to pick one out and appoint it for the next challenge 😃

Besides, is anyone here interested in a little experiment according to my prior suggestion? I'd like to check how my "Regentanz" sounds as metal version 😃 Unfortunately I do not have an electric guitar 😃
Well, if someone wants to attempt that one too, it could be done in an extra thread, apart from the competitions :-)

Meticus
I'm hardly a metal guitarist but I'd be keen to give it a go.

If you're looking for theme ideas, I was thinking about Odd Time Signatures... get us out of our 2/4 4/4 rut!

Hey, I'll also give it a bash. I can't do fast 80's shreddy metal, but I can do some gojira-like stuff.

Yeti I was thinking about Odd Time Signatures

Well, that's a great idea, now you are letting me off the hook 😀
So herewith I proclaim the topic for the next Guitar Talk challenge: Even time signatures are forbidden. The odder the better!

Yeti I'm hardly a metal guitarist but I'd be keen to give it a go.

klaasvakie Hey, I'll also give it a bash.

As to the bagpipe composition as suggested before, I created a new thread for everybody who wants to give it a try. No challenge, but therefore no limits, restrictions or time pressure 😀
I posted it in the Recording section, is that the correct location for such issues @V8 ?
