Here we go with voting on our first leg (of 3 of the ) Guitar Talk Lockdown challenge.

Part 3 will kick off on the 15th April, We're still getting together backing tracks for it - if you have a backing track to contribute please add it to this thread - thanks!

Meticus - LoCkDoWn Challenge Pt.2

Unfortunately there was not much time to invent a German bagpipe tune and practice enough for the challenge, because tomorrow is Good Friday and German neighbours are very niggling when it comes to noise on holidays 😀
So I took my acoustic guitar and plucked some strings 😄
No icepicky pipes this time, I hope nobody is disappointed 😅

WarrenPridgeon - Lockdown Jams

So... I jammed something to all three...

Juventis' Togs Loop

This one was pretty funky to jam along to.

Rocking House Loop

This one was challenging... Also was challenging to get it semi EQ'd so you can hear the backtrack and what I was trying to jam over it.

Lockin Back Track

Groovy type thing. I tried to take some inspiration from Chuck Berry type stuff.

Stoffeltoo - GT Loop Challenge

Ok my entry, Lockin Backtrack, enjoyed it a hellavalot. Oh recorded on my cellphone (Live Jam Entry!) and I played on an acoustic, effects by bandlab, both tracks slightly panned left and right each, no doubling. Cheers and good luck

Well done for getting something in my dudes!

Sadly, I wasn't happy with my efforts, used yeti's backing track (Very "Crazy thing called love" flavoured) - learnt two new licks & made many a take - nailed the first 24 bars, but the next 24 were abysmal. Many takes and much fowl language later, I gave up!

...but I did have fun, and learnt some new things - hope y'all (entry or not) found the same!

Warren Juventis's Loop, well played and I liked your approach very much, Lockin Back track, nicely done man.
The Rocking House Loop, what a challenge, I for one would not and did not have any idea how to approach this one, thus the sit out. Well played and cudo's indeed for tackling it with your style

This is a difficult one for voting because I think every one deserves recognition for their creative artistry

I sometimes hear such deviations only some hours after export of a song. Maybe clicking in the DAW too long makes my ears deaf for some details 😄 Hope that gets better over time xD

Hearing fatigue is a thing. Are you taking breaks while mixing or do you sit there for an extended period mixing and recording etc?

I'll often record something, think it sounds ok, and then the next day it sounds TRASH...

Also, are you mixing via headphones? What volume do you mix at? These things affect how it will sound afterwards.

Oh yes, I'm sitting there from recording the first piece of track until wave file export, maybe that's the problem 😅 Never thought of taking a rest because it's fun and fun requires no rest 😆 Ok, I think next time I take a rest or two. Good clue!

Yes, I alway use headphones.

warrenpridgeon What volume do you mix at?

Most time I did everything in a moderate volume, but before file export I always turn up to a high volume and listen to the complete song again to check if there are still some corrupt parts in the track.

Thanks for the tips, next time I will have an eye on that issues.

Meticus I tend to do the first bit of recording. Then I'll try eq and mix the following day or days later.

Not everyone has cool studio monitors.
If at all possible try and mix on speakers... headphones are ok but make it tougher.
Or at least try and listen to your mix in the car or on a hifi afterwards.
Over time you'll get "closer" to the result you want from headphones (because you'll get to know how they react/colour the sound).

This challenge was a little easier to mix as the back tracks are pretty decent, but I found when I recorded all the instruments myself it was TOUGH... I mixed with headphones and then when I listened on speakers I was like "where's the guitar?"

Ah ok, that's good to know. I thougt headphones were the best option because there is no external noise and I could concentrate better on the sound since it is right at my ears. I haven't thought of checking if there is a difference when hearing the same sound on a hifi. Next time I will use my speakers for mixing.

And if there is enough time I will also try to avoid recording and mixing all the same day without a break. I mean if I can muster the necessary patience 😃

Sounded great Meticus, but guitar was a little lost in the mix.
