Heya All, thought it's time to start up a Black Friday 2019 thread...

What news are you all hearing out in the wilds for interesting sale items, we've had Andrew from Raru dropping Raru News

Raru's "Not a Black Friday Sale" kicked off today - So a few things grabbed my eye (Zoom B3N and G1X multifx) - but to me those prices arn;t special.

One or two things are interesting (Novation Audiohub, Rane turntable, Focusrite Clarett Interface) - but the pricing otherwise isn't any different from what I can get in-store - the Marshall Code 25 @ R2999 is okay I think?

TOMS, Bothners and MARS are yet to hint at anything...updates as I hear/see 'em!

Are you actively shopping for musical items this Black Friday?

This poll has ended.

The usual suspects. RARU and Takealot.

I did pick up 1 item off of Raru which i thought was excellent price wise last Black Friday. Also picked a mic some 2 months ago on Takealot. Of late they have had some good prices..

Was at Oosthavens picking up my cables and the feller there said all the new stock (and there was more coming) was for Black friday. So they are doing something. Didnt elaborate.. from what i could tell.. had some new PRs SE guitars in. An american strat.. gretsch, a handful of taylor etc. Pricing was a bit steep.. but if they are doing a black friday blow out.. they might have some specials. So perhaps check their website too.

Do you guys think there will be any deals on a Fender Player strat this black friday?

  • V8 replied to this.

Sean1983 I reckon the best deal for Fender gear will be in-store @ Bothners. You'd still have to haggle a bit, but it'll be easier than usual as the sales guys get a little more leeway during sales than at other times.,

Right-o, Bothners have a Black Friday promo going down - each day till and including Black Friday - they are going to have something on special.

Today was 10 sets (1/customer) of Ernie Ball strings at 44% discount with free shipping.

Well, that deal is long gone - but gives me hope for the rest!

I'd subscribe to their newsletter if you want to get a heads up of their other deals - the deals seem to drop at 8:30am...

        10 days later

So the day is here and the deals are dropping!

Bothners have something on sale, though I can't really tell you what exactly. The website isn't easy to trawl through all the deals on offer. Boo!

Decent deals on brands they distribute (Fender, Cort, Ernie Ball, etc...)

Raru have a bunch of deals up, including things that didn't sell out during the week. Nothing blowing my hair back - but a couple of interesting things are good prices (Alesis Mesh e-Kit, Blackstar Fly mini amp, Orange O-Bass)

Marshall have some deals, including a Gibson Tribute LP SPecial and Taylor GS mini. Like Bothners figuring out what's on special ain't easy. In fact, I never noticed their shop front-end looks very, very similar...hmmm. Well if you are looking at a new Gibson, they're the peeps to talk to.

TOMS do have some deals but nothing I'm gonna scream about. Interesting news is that Mars Cape Town CBD is now a TOMS store - good news for the Cpt peeps and next years TOM"s sale which is usually better than Black Friday.

And Takealot have some bits on sale, Not a great selection, but I reckon it's mostly Bothners fulfilled...which means if you head into a Bothners they'll be able to beat that price. If you are looking for the cheapest Squire, this is the place (R1599)

Music Experience also have a Black Friday sale - though I'm not convinced the majority of the prices are actually special. Think there's one or two gems (certain colours) hiding in their lists of things.

Overall....Hmm, to me it's much the same as last year. Slightly better pricing than "sale time' but not much that's outrageously cheap. - though I think some retailers definitely put more effort in (Bothners, Raru) to try and get tempting deals. Do keep an eye on Bothners & Raru they still have deals droppng today and through the weekend.

Definitely did notice a bit of RRP price tomfoolery going on - that is compared to during the year, RRP's on certain items have risen - makes the Black Friday special all the more special. Most retailers are doing it, so I can't really single out anyone in particular..,.

Personally I think it's a good time to buy new (if you must), trawl online stores for deals, then head into a bricks n mortar and see if they can beat the deals - the salesspeeps generally have more leeways during sale time.

        Happy Shopping!
