wern101 My anthem. As in, how I feel 'bout music?

EXACTLY! I reckon you've hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head - two thumbups ?

I have an Afrikaans song that I have been aching to get done properly. This may just be the kick in the "insert body part here" that i need.

I mean I am pretty sure we can literally go with anything right? Just wanted to make sure of the rules.

Pretty much! Whatever gets ya to press that infernal blinking red record button (and makes us fret ?)

Cool. This one is gonna be fun. Now just to find time.

Picking a genre will be interesting as I mostly like, rock, blues, acoustic, jazz, metal, classic .... Mmmm....

Can I go with RBAJMC?

Aha - though google couldn't give me even a sniff of a clue on RBAJMC ?

Yip - any genre that makes you wanna Anthem. There I made a verb. Probably shouldn't but I did anyways.

RodneyVikens Song is mostly arranged and scratch guitars recorded. Need to finish up leads, bass and refine drums then will re-record the tracks properly. Not much of a singer so it'll definitely be an instrumental lol

Find it much easier to use an amp VST to get scratch tracks in while songwriting then will fire up the Marshall and my pedals to finalize ?

RodneyVikens I've got a riff, it grooves sweetly but there's no B and C section yet. Story of my songwriting life, get one idea and it withers as I try extend it.

It IS a good riff though!

I've got the guitar pretty much sorted, struggling to get lyrics and melody to fit. If it goes pear-shaped I might just submit as an instrumental.

      From my research thus far:
"If I flick on my lighter, it's an Anthem."
"When perfect strangers start hugging each other."
"A rock anthem is a powerful, celebratory rock song with arena-rock sound often with lyrics celebrating rock music itself and simple sing-a-long choruses, chants, or hooks. These Rock Anthems were chosen for their popularity as a rock anthem, music, lyrics, and originality."
"when a song demands more air guitar"

      Some apparent examples:
      "Anthem" - Wayne Newton
"Born in the U.S.A." - Bruce Springsteen
"Dancing in the Street" - Martha & The Vandellas
"God Bless America" - Connie Francis
"Gonna Fly Now (Theme from 'Rocky')" - Bill Conti & His Orchestra
"Hands Across America" - The Voices of America
"Heal the World" - Michael Jackson
"I Have a Dream" - Rev. Martin Luther King
"I'm Coming Out" - Diana Ross
"Put Another Log On the Fire (Male Chauvinist National Anthem)" - Tompall
"Rock and Roll All Nite (Live)" - Kiss
"Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves" - Eurythmics & Aretha Franklin
"The Star Spangled Banner (live)" - Whitney Houston
"The Star-Spangled Banner" - Jose Feliciano
"The Star Spangled Banner" - Faith Hill
"United We Stand" - The Brotherhood of Man
"We Are Family" - Sister Sledge
"We're Not Gonna Take It" - Twisted Sister
"We Will Rock You / We Are the Champions" - Queen

Wow.... Seems like everyone has at least something. Maybe I can get into it a bit later today.

RodneyVikens I always have a groove and occasionally a riff...but a whole song? Don't let me mislead you...?

Ek het niks bra! NIKS... lol

I'm still trying to find some inspiration from other anthem songs.

warrenpridgeon I'm still trying to find some inspiration from other anthem songs.

I just found a B section to the A - all thanks to a teeny sized Jazz III - they're not entirely useless it seems ?

All I need is a C (middle 8/bridge) section and a lot of energy - I get far too involved in tweaking & fiddling with things.

Oh, I guess some lyrics too. And A singer. And a drummer with some fresh beats...Oh dear ?

V8 Lol! I've got a chorus which I think sound sick....no, like I might have flu. This will be the first song I have ever recorded with voice.
