studmissile Oh wow that's a blast from the past! Haven't heard that song in ages and definitely remember loving it as a kid ?
I definitely had no idea the lyrics were so ridiculous ? We should do another challenge purely for ridiculous lyrics!

studmissile Beautiful song, definitely another tearjerker.
Doesn't seem like there are a lot of happy or uplifting brother songs ?
By the way, there's no limit on entries. Each person can enter any number of songs. I should probably just add that the first person to post a song gets the credit for it if it gets picked as the winning song.
Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some loving here today - Ya
[Verse 1]
Father, father
We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some loving here today
[Chorus]
Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what's going on
What's going on
Ya, what's going on
Ah, what's going on
[Bridge]
In the mean time
Right on, baby
Right on
Right on
[Verse 2]
Mother, Mother everybody thinks we're wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply because our hair is long
Oh, you know we've got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
Oh
[Chorus]
Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me
So you can see
What's going on
Ya, what's going on
Tell me what's going on
I'll tell you what's going on - Uh
Right on baby
Right on baby
Marvin Gaye 1971
Fall is here, hear the yell
Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues
Climb the fence, books and pens
I can tell that we are going to be friends
I can tell that we are going to be friends
Walk with me, Suzy Lee
Through the park and by the tree
We will rest upon the ground
And look at all the bugs we found
Safely walk to school without a sound
Safely walk to school without a sound
Here we are, no one else
We walked to school all by ourselves
There's dirt on our uniforms
From chasing all the ants and worms
We clean up and now its time to learn
We clean up and now its time to learn
Numbers, letters, learn to spell
Nouns, and books, and show and tell
Playtime we will throw the ball
Back to class, through the hall
Teacher marks…

Great tune! ?
NorioDS Gotta love some funky bass!
Guilty as charged!. Two others that came to mind were "Lean on me" 0 BIll Withers and "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" by The Hollies.
I'll err on the side of the magic duo of Edwards and Rodgers (Chic's bassist & guitarist wrote stuff for Sister Sledge, Duran Duran, Bowie,, Inxs)n n more)
I had to google it today - true enough, there's a list of tunes on Brother/Sister relationships: https://melodyful.com/cute-songs-about-brother-sister-relationship
I'd pick #1...upbeat message, but Coldplay make everything sound so bloody morose! I think they could make a funeral dirge out of happy birthday ?
Brothers and sisters unite
It's the time of your lives
It's the time of your lives
Break down, break down
Gotta spread love around
Gotta spread it all aroundBrothers and sisters feel fine
It's the time of your lives
It's the time of your lives
No sound, no sound
Like this feeling you've found
Like this feeling you've foundBut just stay down
'Cos some sounds you'll feel
So stay round
And some sounds you'll feelAnd it's me they're looking for
And it's me
I will never survive
But we'll be around some moreBrothers and sisters unite
It's the time of your lives
It's the time of your lives
Break down, break down
Gotta spread love around
Gotta spread it aroundBut just stay down
And some sounds you'll feel
So stay 'round
And some sounds you'll feelAnd it's me they're looking for
And it's me
I will never survive
But we'll be around some more
Brothers and sisters unite
Its the time of your lives
Its the time of your lives
Thought I might chuck this one in there. Anyone not into rock loves this song.
Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere
A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on, and on, and on
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights, people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on, and on, and on
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights, people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlights, people
And of course:
I've paid my dues
Time after time
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime
And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through
We are the champions, my friends
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world
I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls
You brought me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it
I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race
And I ain't gonna lose
We are the champions, my friends
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world
We are the champions, my friends
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions
Aand for my final submission (it gets quite easy when you think cheesy =P),
We have the chance, to turn the pages over
We can write what we want to write
We gotta make ends meet, before we get much older
We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo
This time, we know we call can stand together
With the power to be powerful
Believing, we can make it better
We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?
Might as well plug my favourite SA singer-songwriter. Laurie Levine with Oh Brother
Couldn't find lyrics online so here is my transcription. If you hear anything different to what I have, I would like to know:
Oh brother heard you calling
In the middle of the night I woke
You were walking fast towards me
Arms open begging me to stop
I dunno how it all started
Some sweet words on her tongue
She was sad and I was broken
And when the light fell it was done
And when the light fell it was done
Oh Oh, it's a long way down
I've reached rock bottom but I don't know how to climb
No I don't know how to climb
You were holding a cross in one hand
I was cold and I couldn't stand
It was raining and I was getting soaked
You were crying and then I woke
Oh Brother I am scared
She found my heart I took it back
I cannot look you in the eyes
Now that ain't no small crime
Now that ain't no small crime
Oh Oh, it's a long way down
I've reached rock bottom but I don't know how to climb
No I don't know how to climb
No I don't know how to climb
I don't know how to climb
I don't know how to climb
Bonnie "Prince" Billy - I See A Darkness
Lyrics
Well you're my friend
(It's what you told me)
And can you see
(What's inside of me)
Many times
We've been out drinking
And many times
We've shared our thoughts
But did you ever, ever notice
The kind of thoughts I got
Well you know I have a love
A love for everyone I know
And you know I have a drive
To live I won't let go
But can you see it's opposition
Comes a-rising up sometimes
That it's dreadful and position
Comes blacking in my mind
And that I see a darkness
And that I see a darkness
And that I see a darkness
And that I see a darkness
And did you know how much I love you
Is a hope that somehow you you
Can save me from this darkness
Well I hope that someday, buddy
We have peace in our lives
Together or apart
Alone or with our wives
That we can stop our whoring
And pull the smiles inside
And light it up forever
And never go to sleep
My best unbeaten brother
This isn't all I see
Oh no I see a darkness
Oh no I see a darkness
Oh no I see a darkness
Oh no I see a darkness
And did you know how much I love you
Is a hope that somehow you you
Can save me from this darkness

Yeah... so I actually lost a brother last year... so this whole theme hits me right in the feels (especially that Falling in Reverse track).
I'll give it some proper thought when I have a bit of time but this was my first thought. It's not strictly on theme but does have 'brother' the title... and is a fantastic track.
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Someday you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn to be
Brothers in arms
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell and
The moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We are fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
No Surrender - Bruce Springsteen - YouTube
Lyrics
Well, we bursted out of class
Had to get away from those fools
We learned more from a three-minute record, baby
Than we ever learned in school
Tonight I hear the neighborhood drummer sound
I can feel my heart begin to pound
You say you're tired and you just want to close your eyes
And follow your dreams down
Well, we made a promise we swore we'd always remember
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Like soldiers in the winter's night
With a vow to defend
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Well, now young faces grow sad and old
And hearts of fire grow cold
We swore blood brothers against the wind
Now I'm ready to grow young again
And hear your sister's voice calling us home
Across the open yards
Well maybe we'll cut someplace of our own
With these drums and these guitars
'Cause we made a promise we swore we'd always remember
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Blood brothers in the stormy night
With a vow to defend
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Now on the street tonight the lights grow dim
The walls of my room are closing in
There's a war outside still raging
You say it ain't ours anymore to win
I want to sleep beneath
Peaceful skies in my lover's bed
With a wide open country in my eyes
And these romantic dreams in my head
Once we made a promise we swore we'd always remember
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Blood brothers in a stormy night
With a vow to defend
No retreat, baby, no surrender
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Ohh ohh ohh
Ohh ohh ohh
Ohh ohh ohh
Ohh ohh ohh

"We learned more from a three-minute record, baby
Than we ever learned in school" Such a great lyric.
Not strictly to theme either but...
How about this one?
