  • Garage Days - This time it's the 3rd one

Good morning all,
There was a bit of discussion on the WhatsApp about having another Pretoria jam session on 8th December and Norio recommended we move it to somewhere more permanent.

Notice is a bit shorter than the last couple but I think we should more or less follow the same format. So we'll select 4 or 5 songs for us to work on ahead of the time, play through those and then see where the mood takes us and probably end with a bit of a jam on a blues... or whatever else strikes us.

If you'd like to join us then please reply to this post and let us know so we can plan. Please include what instruments you plan to play. Non-guitarists are very welcome and if you have friends who might want to join, please invite them too.

We're also looking for songs, so please suggest away.

@NorioDS @guidothepimmp @Lu22 @slowpoet @Hasie

To get the ball rolling, I'm planning to be there. I'll have an electric and an acoustic and can do vox.

I've also got a tentative commitment from a drummer (Nick, same guy as last time) but he doesn't have any of his own gear so if anyone has a hi hat and cymbals that he could use, that would be fantastic.

As far as songs go I'd like to put forward Sweet Child of Mine because it's something most of us know already and possibly House of the Rising sun as a jam for us to solo over.

I'm game. I like the suggestions

In principle.. i am good for the 8th. Guitar.

For an acoustic track.. the unplugged down in a hole by Alice in chains

For electric.. zztop just got paid, or jack whites sixteen saltines

I forget to mention: I'll have a Ukelele and Guitar (maybe even a guitarelele!!!) depending on final choice of songs

If we have too many guitarists.. i can double on bass. Just need to know in advance to learn the songs

slowpoet you're welcome to use one of my guitars if you'd prefer not to bring one on the bike.

            guidothepimmp
I'm very much a rhythm player and then only barely if I'm singing at the same time so unless we get a real flood I reckon we'll need you on guitar.

Yeti Norio recommended we move it to somewhere more permanent.

I don't think we can do that just yet so I've checked with Greg and the usual spot is available for the 8th ?

I'll be there. Probably rocking my bass. I figure it's the only thing I have time to practise on. Guitar is too hard ?

Yeti As far as songs go I'd like to put forward Sweet Child of Mine

            Nice! +1

Yeti and possibly House of the Rising sun

Love it! Already been jamming this one since I got my looper. +1

So it's yeti, slowpoet, noriods and guidothepimmp. And Nick the drummer.

              So far that's:
              1x drummer
              1x bass
              1x lead
              2x rhythm
              1x vocals

              Song suggestions so far are:
              Sweet Child of Mine
Alice In Chains - Down in a Hole (Unplugged)
ZZ TOP - Just Got Paid
              Jack White - Sixteen Saltines

              Any others?

Yeti House of the Rising Sun?

I'm not sure, but will people be able to learn the last 3 before next weekend?

              • Yeti replied to this.

                slowpoet Thanks, missed that.
I reckon we can, at least enough to give them a shot. Especially if Claudio already knows the lead.
Possibly work checking with Nick though.

Yeti wow... lol. Just to manage expectations.. im far from a lead guitarist. Merely a rhythm guitarist who tries to throwdown.. and with a great degree of difficulty at that ?
For the 3 i suggested.. only the zztop tune has a solo.. i dont know it noot vir noot.. but i figured its a good improv platform.

I need to learn both sweet child o mine. Thats right. I never learnt it ?

                  5 days later

Show is finally over, kids are with granny and I've spent a very happy morning with my guitar checking out the songs for next week (my amp really loves Sixteen Saltines... looking forward to being able to turn it up!).

I see that down in a hole is tuned a semitone down. Would people mind if we just do it in standard tuning with the rest of the songs? I reckon I should still be able to do the vocals.
