  • 13 guitar players you need to hear in 2018

Nobody else blown away by Marcus King??? Heish, I can't believe...?

He's 22y/o and with the kinda ease of playing that I associate with the G3 fellows.

@V8 I didn't get a chance to listen yet. So I've just taken a listen to Rita's Gone and...

Lovely voice. And he sings with tons of passion. I could listen to this group all weekend long. I dig the whole ensemble. A very complementary mix of musicians. Sometimes the brass (in other groups) goes over the top. But it's all in service of the song here.

Fast-forward to around 5:30 to see what @V8 was talking about about the guitarist. YOH! Guy can play. And it's also super tasteful. Very nice mix of blues and jazz licks and grooves in his INSANE solo.

    I'm subscribing to their channel.

+1, somewhere I read the style desribed as "soul infused, psychedelic blues rock" - I hear elements of Otis Redding, SRV, Jimi, Albert Lee, Freddie King, Janis Joplin - no surprise that I'm a instant fan - them are all my favourites ?

V8, thanks for the link. I have to admit, I am totally blown away! Marcus King and his band are absolutely brilliant! As you said, one can hear elements of many great singers/players - not just guitar players - but it's still somehow refreshing, new in some ways, unexpected changes here and there... just flipping great. I heard about 6-7 songs and they are all simply great.

It's been years since I was this impressed with "new" blues guys. The "youngsters" Jonny Lang, Gary Clark Junior, etc. are not exactly that young anymore - although still great - and it's fantastic to see new blues blood out there.

I'm listening to them as I write this, but all I want to do is grab the guitar and play!!!
