A fatter sounding single coil? A brighter sounding humbucker? Something in-between but quite either? I'm still figuring it out, what's your thoughts?

I have been curious about the P90 for a while now. It comes recommended from all directions, for all sorts of tone applications incl warm jazz. I don't remember playing a P90-fitted guitar yet, but would surely like to have one on loan for a week.
Jazzman105 I got to play two a few weeks ago. A 70's MIJ Morris SG/LP copy with dog ear'ed P-90's and a newish MIC Fender Thinline Tele w/P-90's.
I realllllyyy liked the Morris - had a gnarly/snarly vibe to sound, but with a lot of dynamics - sounded great clean and responded really nicely to gain. The thinline was flat, a bit muddy and uninspiring in comparison.
Not sure what passes for a 'good' P-90?
