I recently completed a long term goal of mine to build a guitar from scratch. I completed my first attempt in 2016, but it had a lot of problems and barely passed as "playable". A lot of it's hardware was scavenged for attempt number two and it now sits in the corner of shame in my garage where DIY projects go to die.
The latest build still needs a thorough setup and refinements, but overall it is a passable instrument that I am quite proud of!
To keep costs down in the event that this one turned out to be another epic failure, I used wood that I had left over from other projects or that was kindly donated to me. Now that I have completed a successful build I may invest in some decent wood and hardware to make another guitar (wood is expensive!!!)
The Body and Neck are both Meranti with a Red Teak veneer.
The pickup is a Guitar Fetish Mean90.
Would be very interested to see anyone else's home builds here on Guitar Talk!
