Hi fella's, I hope you're having a good week. I've had a hankering for a few weeks now that i need a good ol' USA made Strat. My question is this: how much should i spend on a second hand MIA Strat? Thanks very much, have a good one!
How much should i spend on a second hand Fender USA standard Strat?
Somewhere between 10k and 25k depending on year/spec/condition. I'm thinking the highway one will be 10-12k, Standard around 12-15k and Deluxe 18k+. Custom shop and signature models will vary.
Bothners had their November sale and new US strats were 19k - which was pretty good price for new locally.
ATM, I think there's a dip in demand, so a wanted ad on one of the facebook trading groups will get you a nice selection of really nice cond guitars to choose form.
Happy hunting!
@BrandonM You'll hate me for this...

There a fair amount of cross-posting between the two groups, SAMIS usually has a few more bits, but both are worth keeping a eye on.
And, of course, the classifieds here on GuitarTalk ?

nick_D01 Thanks, it's merely my opinion from regularly trawling the sale groups. 3-4 years ago, a Highway One strat was somewhere between 7-8k, a US standard was around 8-10k and a Deluxe (my choice) around 15k. That dip the rand had around 2yrs ago (finance minister shuffling) bumped 2nd hand prices up due to all the new stuff being adjusted up by the retailers. Though some new gear prices have re-adjusted back, most havn't and the 2nd hand market is still fairly healthy.
Right now - strats don't seem to be in much demand - I'm seeing a lot of MIJ/CIJ strat's around the 7-8k mark, which for the a guitar that ''speaks to you'' is a really fair price.
