  • Footswitch options for Katana-50 amp?

Hi. I recently bought myself a Boss Katana-50 amp. Very happy with it so far. The only disappointment is that it doesn't come with a foot switch. There I want to buy one and this is my question - what are my options for an affordable footswitch that works with this amp?

The Boss FS-5 U & L pedals are what I have concluded as the best options. However, I've been told the 5L (latched) has been discontinued, and that is what I want - the 5U (unlatched) is not the kind of switch I want.

Are there any good options in this price range? Whatever brand. The FS-5 pedals cost R400 a pop.

Thanks
Leighton

This is one of (a very) few things I made that worked.

The most complicated thing is to find a footswitch that is latching (not momentary) - the rest is easy enough.

I did one a while ago - latched switch for a Marshall amp that needed a reverb footswitch. I had a latching switch, found a old hard drive enclosure and after 30mins I had a functional switch. Which still works!

    It's something like this build : https://liveukulele.com/gear/how-to-make-a-footswitch-for-boss-or-roland-gear/

Zoom, Line6 and other have their own variants - which may work on the katana. Sure someone out there has posted what kinda DIY switch would work

      you can turn a FS-U into a FS-L with a easy modification

The switch you want for latching is the normal stompbox 9-terminal 3PDT- the 'blue one' is the decent quality one normally available here - http://www.mantech.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?Item=15M1168
You don't need all the terminals, but the 2p switch costs more- http://www.mantech.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?Item=72M4163

EDIT: you can use one of the spare sets of poles to fit an LED indicator that will show you if the channel is on or off
