I am looking for an acoustic guitar amplifier. If one trawls the net the amps that come up are things like Fishman, AER, Roland, Yamaha, Fender and Marshall. There is also a new Mesa acoustic amp. Sadly not much seems to be available in South Africa (or am I missing things?)
Any guidance?

I've seen the FIshman Loudbox locally (not sure who the distributor is), Roland & Fender (Bothners/Musical Distributios) and Marshall makes a decent 50w one too.

Havn't seen AER much and it'll take a while to get the Mesa here I reckon.

Read good things about the loudbox, I've heard the Marshall 50w and was impressed.

THere's also the Ibby Troubadour - cheap, but good. Also Laney acoustic stuff, though I'm not a fan.

Fishman always scores high in product reviews. My Taylor has a built-in pre amp so the other option is to go straight into a mixing desk and then feed a conventional power amp, but that is cumbersome. I am not averse to build or modify an amplifier, have quite a few hi-fi valve amps that could be candidates. Would love a valve acoustic amp (even though that is a bit of a contradiction in terms)!!

I-M-Biased Depends on where you are going to use the amp I guess...A hifi valve amp should have a lot of clean headroom - I'd dig that! My mate has a 60's Vox AC10, doesn't really breakup much, but has the sweetest cleans I've heard yet.

But I ain't lugging around that beastie ? Aside from weight, gear takes a beating when travelling!

If I was one man banding, then a PA makes sense - maybe just a powered speaker to start, though I'd think about a compact system. The Bose Line Array is pretty impressive.

If I was home use with an occasional gig out n about (PA usually available), then a loudbox mini makes more sense.
