Heya.

So I tried one of these today. The clean channel is fantastic and she is LOUD. Damn near turned my skeleton into tofu at just 50%.

Some quick questions.

Does anyone here have any experience with this amp? Whats your opinion on it?

Its a single 12" combo. I hear people talking about 2x12s all the time. It is being a single a problem?

I would be adding pedals to build on my lead tone and give it some dirt when needed, but what I really want is a great clean amp. Any recommendations other than this particular one?

Just read a bunch of threads on the topic of 1x12 vs 2x12. Sounds like a 2x12 would be first prize in most cases.

I think the HRD iii is a great amp and clean but like you said loud......too loud? It seems to be the only complaint from most who sell theirs.

Also try a fender twin reverb for great headroom
Fender Twins is supposedly a hell of an amp. I'm not sure how much those go for though.

Same with the Peavey Delta Blues.

You'd have to wait or ask around for a 2nd hand Twin?

I'd love delta, I don't think they import them here?

Ideally the best is to try as many amps as possible, most Fenders tend to have that clean channel you after.
            Howdy.

The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III is a great amp for recording or live.

Because it is manufactured in Mexico the costs are less than USA and the end product more affordable.

Great Fender Clean tones. Not quite Blackface, but a good tone for the price.

I have used mine for regular gigs for 5 years now. No issues.

The only negative would be the reverb usually becomes faulty after vigorous use.

            Otherwise I give it 8 / 10 ?

I heard a guy today had a 100 watt Fender Twins tube.

And here I am shitting my pants over a 40 watt tube.

              Hmmm...

I'll be adding a bunch of pedals to the mix anyway so an extra reverb pedal won't be a problem.

I managed to have a chat with a guy today who brings in many of the Fenders for many of the shops and he was telling me the Hot Rod Deville 212 is amazing, but there is also some new signature model made for a Michael something that consists of two clean channels (no overdrive, built to add pedals to) and is supposedly out of this world.

He might be able to bring in a model of one or the either for me to test out so I'll hold out on buying until I get a taste of 'em.

Otherwise I just get the Deluxe and should I ever play an outdoor festival (HOLDING THUMBS!!!!!!!!!!) then I could always borrow or rent something else.

I played the deluxe again today and it really is great.

The only thing is that the Deville is a 60 watt tube and apparently doesn't sound good at anything below 4 or something like that, which would be too loud for bars, but I was told a hot plate (is it a hot plate? I can't remember) can solve that issue. Its also not much more expensive for much more volume.

Every now and then a Hot Rod Deluxe Limited Editions pops up R8000-R9000 second hand, besides the cosmetic "enhancements" they usually have slightly better speakers?

i had a vox ac4tv mini, which when plugged into the 2x12 i had, would cause mild heart attacks. 4 watt valve is already loud, into the efficient 2x12, even more so. smaller wattage head and efficient 2x12 is something to try out first, before taking a hrd and plugging that into a 2x12.

60W 2x12 Deville :P Picked it up last night.
? that can only be super loud. But congrats 8)

Thanks and yeah, very bloody loud!

The loudest I can go in my flat without pissing off the neighbours is 15%, but it sounds great even at "low" levels.

I'm not at all surprised.. you might want to look into a tube tamer of sorts ?
Those amps' volume knobs don't scale linearly. It gets quite loud at 1 or 2 already, will probably start overdriving at 3 or 4 and after that just gets dirtier, not louder still. My amps are like this too.
Enjoy! I will be monitoring your soundcloud profile for some samples. ?

Is a hot box the same thing as a tube tamer? The guys at the store told said something about a hot box that keeps the tone of the cranked tube but reduces the volume.

Gotta say, the overdrive sound on this thing is beauuuutiful. So fluid and squeaky which is EXACTLY how I like my lead sound to be. I just need to a pedal to switch channels with.

Lol thanks but unfortunately the sound comes out muffled and inarticulate in this little room when using the mic so I'll still be recording with the Line6 Toneport. It'll be a live amp only I guess.

Now for the hard part: Startin' a band! Or join one, whatever.
