Great sounding stuff - now this was a challenge.

You have 2 votes - and 3 days to cast vote.

doc-phil http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/doc-phil.mp3 I imagine that this would be the result if Opeth was commissioned to compose a ringtone/alarm tone - simple and broody!

Hasie http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/Hasie.mp3 Tried something else, but kept on making mistakes(such a noob), so did this instead, My very first recording

Studmissile http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/Studmissile.mp3 Intro to a little country ditty I've been working on.

Honky Tonk Lullaby Intro [Ac Guitar Only]

Tokyopop http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/Tokyopop.mp3 I used a Taylor 114CE acoustic plugged into a Line6 Toneport, using a slightly tweaked sound called Mr Clean on Gearbox, recorded onto Audacity.

V8 http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/V8.mp3

Warren http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/warrenpridgeon.mp3 I departed from my normal style a little bit. Managed to keep it just under 30 seconds. PRS SE Custom 24 into Line 6 POD HD 500x into reaper through USB cable.

Voted...I will probably give some feedback tomorrow. But considering waiting till the voting closes...
Some very nice tunes. You all are quite skilled.
I feel a bit embarressed about my entry compared to the others. :-[

Never ever feel embarrassed about doing something. No matter how you feel about it it is waaaaay more than many people have or will ever do. The recording process isn't something that just "happens". Even composing music takes a bunch of practice and effort. Just keep doing what you are doing and keep pushing forwards. It's hard work... but it pays off ?
All rad tunes. I especially like V8's riff; I might actually get out of bed in the mornings if that was my alarm clock. It sounds Motorola-y...
            Nice entries all round.

If I have one comment (for myself included) is we should have all used a click track! I did mine in one take without a click, and listening back I can hear how all over the show it is.

Some of the other entries could have done with a click to keep things in time.

Standout entry for me is Studmissile.
Grrreeat stuff all round guys - while recording I thought it would really nice to have some percussion in the final result, but on listening to all the entries it was brilliant to hear the stripped down guitar track solo - kinda leveled the playing field and allowed me to focus on the creativity in the track.

Really hope we do something like this again!

I see I neglected the blurb for my track : 1st time for mic'ing up a guitar amp. One take, two tracks. Track 1 was 100% dry signal & Track 2 was Track 1 with 100% wet (reverb only) to try and get a room mic sound - mixed 70% track 1 and 30% track 2.

I had a drum track going as a click Dr Phil, in retrospect the bpm was a bit high for my fingers :-[

Thanks Warren. Will keep trying, learning, improving and entering these competitions.

                  Damn...I used a clicktrack ??? lol
Wow! 6 entries! I'm so chuffed.

This is definitely a winning format!

Will take a listen and vote a bit later. Congrats to you guys for submitting entries. I'm excited about this.

To add to Warren's comments additional words of encouragement from my side, Hasie - well done, your playing is "in time" and nicely recorded, keep it up.
Nice entries and my votes have been cast
Forgot to mention. I tuned my guitar to 432Hz with this. Trying it out to hear what the fuss is about.
                          My votes are in ?

StudM: Very cool tune. Had me bopping along in no time and I don't even like country ?

WarrenP: Makes me think of Maiden. I <3 Maiden ?

I agree! For every entry you see up there, there are probably 5 more who "wanted to" enter but didn't get around to it. I'm one of those guys.

So huge respect to you for a) entering and b) recording a nice in-time piece. Keep entering and you'll surprise yourself with your progress.
Thanks for the positive feedback Brian and Norio.

                                432Hz is a load of nonsense ?

8Hz vibration around the planet? What? REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY? O_o

Bwahahaha....I thought the same when I googled it this morn :roflmao:
Well done Studmissile! You've really started to clean up in the challenges :applause:

Congratz to all who entered and thank you to all who voted - nice to have a upward bump in voting!

My 2c on a few of the entries :

Hasie : Definitely keep entering, there's usually categories (beginner, intermediate, advanced), but this month we was all thrown into one - can be discouraging to go against guys who've polished their recording process - but a grand opportunity to listen to their tracks, and ask how they got their sound and learn more about the process.

Tokyopop : One of my votes - I'm a sucker for the style, though the recording was a tad piezo-y for my taste. If you'd blended a mic with the DI input, I reckon you'd have given Stud a run for his money?

Warren : You allllmost got my vote, as this was the most likely of all entries to actually make it onto my phone as a ringtone...but - forgive the critique - those bends (or the notes that were kinda the lead), made me grind my teeth :-\ - Clearly I'm a bit sensitive to that aspect of music, as Doc Phil is to timing issues...Otherwise, Composition & production were good!
