Hey Guitar Gods and Goddesses! ?

My bands debut release "Forest Feuds" is finally done.

LISTEN HERE
https://ohgodband.bandcamp.com/releases

It was recorded by myself and Yan Sanchez at Cape Audio College, Mixed by Bobby Addison from 7String Studiosand Mastered by Neil Pickles in London
Artwork is done by Frances Lawlor

The tracks were recorded quite loosely - as a LIVE recording i.e. we just did 3 run throughs of each track all playing together, multitracked and we went with the best take.
In that sense there are some slightly loose sections but i think it adds to the feel of what we sound like live.

I think our next release will be more of a studio production

What do u guys think? :-\ always open for suggestions and comments

OH and joburg cats, we will be Launching this tomorrow night Friday 03 April at Rumourrs supported by raptor baby, Savage Lucy and Poverty of Ideals

I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but I like the "trippy" parts the most so far. Will give it a full go later and spread it.
Thanks Mixerboy.. yea please sharing is caring!
The trip parts are my fav to play too.

your opinion on the production is welcome as well. ?
This is very exciting. Great job DrGonzo and the rest of the OhGod! crew. The first track makes me think of sleepmakeswaves, another great instrumental band. I've recently discovered Caspian, and I would say your feel is similar to theirs. Good stuff! The vibe of the second track makes me think of this Canadian band called Black Mountain, although they have vox. Solid grooves. I'm a big fan of how the kick drum punctuates the guitar riffs on The Voice. I can only imagine what this is like live. I also love the riff that The Voice rings out with. I've been listening to Interpol a lot, and the guitar sound - that melancholy feel - in Axiom Falls makes me think of their sound. Of course, then immediately after the melancholy bit you guys really rip it up! Love the solo. All in all, this a a very solid recording for me, despite the loose recording process you mention. I listened to the four tracks on good headphones, and all the tracks were nice and present. I'm unqualified to give input into the mix, save to say that I thought the spread of instruments in the mix sounded great to my ears. Two thumbs up for the guy who mastered it. Saw your post about the Rumours gig too late, otherwise I would have tried my damndest to be there. Keep on rocking!
Thanks For the feedback Daveo... Im not too familiar with those bands except for Sleepmakeswaves - But stefan our other guitarist is a fan of Caspian and he writes a lot of the riffs i know so perhaps thats where that kind of sound comes through!

Ja bro unlucky you couldn't come to the show, it was great! apart from the robbery (created another thread about that) we will be up in Joburg agin soon - I think in June.

go to our fb page www.facebook.com/Ohgod.band and u can get all the news, music and event info. 8)

The mix/sound works for the vibe you say you were going for where its a band jamming together etc.
Didn't realise you guys are instrumental, are you planning on getting a vocalist later on?

              Listening now, sounds great
Sounding awesome! Very well produced. Yan must have been in his element!
That kick sound is so heavy but not muddy, genius. ?
                  3 months later
Yeah man sounds good ? cant really say anything bout the mix if it was done by guy in industry.

Think "old tides" your drummer could maybe work on the intro bit regarding the kick and where he places the accents (or maybe he is playing ghost notes just before he starts the 6'es with the kick that makes it sound bit outa time)

Could also be my speakers but would have liked a bit more overall presence on the output channel in the upper mids, maybe cut a but more on the kick and tighten up the 80-100Hz bass guitar range.

But that is if I really think of something to say ? its all good
                    a month later
Hey guys sorry for delay in feedback (unintentional pedal pun?? haha)

hey dude - yup we are instrumental.. and plan to stay that way.. we just throught we would give it a bash... and people responded and continue to respond really well to that, so whatver, its working so dont think we will change now.

Im quite keen on the idea of adding some vocals to some songs.. but more as Layers, or additional instrumentation, than a "Lead"

thanks for the tips man... ja the mix is far from perfect, but not bad. the mastering guy changed it a bit as he siad it was too birght and present, so maybe thats it... I was trusting his judgement, as he has much better Playback system than me!

Anyway dudes, if ur in Jozi, we will be playing alongside internationals, 36Crazyfists and Monuments at Krak'd Up festival 26 Sep in Alberton.
