Not so much a 'clip' for review, but more of a 'website for review'....

I've been working on a new website, and have finally launched it. Still got a few things to iron out, and organise, such as more pics in the gallery, and a blog page, but the basis of the site is there. Please feel free to take a good look, and give me some constructive feedback.

Thanks so much!

Regards
G!
First thing I would suggest is a proper domain name. These wix domains are terrible and not memorable at all.

    Get something.co.za
    Or .com

And setup a simple redirect script on it to redirect to your wiz site. It's not hard to do. You can use nearlyfreespeech.net for hosting that page, it will practically cost you next to nothing and you will get a site that you can tell someone to visit in a bar and they might actually get it.

+1, I think a domain name with Hetzner is R19 a month or something.
Cool. Thanks for the feedback guys. I do intend to get an actual domain name at some point in the near future, as I agree the wix names are awful, though at this stage, I'm just happy to have a site up. My web building skills are next to nothing, and a lot of the terms used are just jargon to me.

        Keep the comments coming! Thanks!

Yeah - I usually avoid visiting Wix sites because they usually take ages to load for me. Give me a call if you want some proper space.

Otherwise, not bad. A few points though:

Are you supposed to be marketing yourself with this site? If so, you should have at least one page that details what work you are available for.

White text on black background can be a bit difficult to read (or at least very fatiguuing for the eyes)... The only time you should use a black background is for a photo gallery site.
Thanks Alan. That's interesting about the white writing on black background.... I usually find it much easier to read than the other way around as there is not as much glare from the screen.

I guess the site is there to 'market' me, so I should have some form of 'previous work' catalogue and/or 'available for' catagories, though as I mention its still early days for the site, and I'm still finding my feet with it all.

Thanks for the offer for space. I may take you up on that. With my current 'stay-at-home-dad' status, I need to find an incredibly affordable deal as I literally have no income currently. Partially why I opted to use a WIX site to get going. Its kind of a weird phase in my musicianhood that I find myself in at present, where I can't call myself a pro, but there's too much water under the bridge to be an amateur. ?

That's usually from having a high monitor contrast and/or too dark a room. Your eyes adjust to the dark and then the white screen seems glaringly bright.

Exactly. Otherwise why do you have a site? A site without a purpose is nothing more than a vainglorious edifice of ego. Put yourself in your visitor's shoes and ask yourself why they will be at your site and what will they want to get from it and work from there.
Thanks for the offer for space.
As long as you don't need too much. ? I can easily spare enough for a respectable WordPress (or other blog/CMS driven site for a friend. All the tools you'll need are preinstalled or available to install from the control panel. Means registering a domain and learning a bit to run the site, but nothing heavy and little to no coding. If it starts to get big or busy, well, by then you should be making some money off it and we can talk...

I'm familiar with that one. ?

Haha! I like this! Maybe at the back of my incredibly shy inverted character, there's an egocentric guitar hero maniac trying to burst out!! ?

Thanks again for the very focused and postitive/constructive feedback. I will work upon the suggestions and make a plan. Updates to follow!

And Alan, I will be in touch soon to make a plan with the space. Thanks again for the kind offer.
