I would like to know who manufactures what locally in South Africa.

There is an existing thread AMP TECHS http://www.guitarforum.co.za/amps-speakers-and-valves/amp-techs/

But I'm curious about locally manufactured amplifier parts.
From caps, resistors, transformers, speakers and even valves (if there are any)!

And as a side topic, why do the local techs/builders import so many components? Are the local stuff too sub-standard?

In short, as far as I'm aware, there isn't any locally produced parts. Its just not worth the investment for companies to move manufacturing out here.

So that's why so many manufacturers out here import, simply because the only suppliers out here have imported them selves, then added their own slice of pie on top!

      As stated above.

Making valves as well as many other electronic components is a highly industrialized process that requires space, investment and energy, and creates a lot of pollution. Even manufacturers in the US and England import most of their components.

As far as I know there are only a few valve factories left as there isn't that much demand for them. I doubt there's any such thing as a successful boutique valve builder.

      I hope this helps somewhat.
You should be able to get transformers wound locally by one of the many armature and transformer winders (on the East Rand there are quite a few of these), as far as I know no other electronic components are manufactured locally.
