My BvanS Striatus

On my last trip to SA I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and staying with Neon Gecko. What an incredibly talented guy! After looking at the instruments that they have in stock, I decided to get a Striatus made for myself to my specifications. Neon Gecko has been working on some 3D pictures and these are the first. The build kicks off at the end of this month! I'm excited! Pick ups are BvanS neck single and a Seymour Duncan Vintage bridge. I also want the old style three saddle bridge.

I noticed that too. Probably for a ferrule block/Tone Bar instead of ferrules, like this:

Probably a hardwood one like he did here:

One question, why the recess on the back for the ferrules?

When drilling the 2 mm holes into the body, the bit tends to follow the softer grain and makes the hole spacing look rotten on the back. We get around this by inserting the hardwood block. It may also help with the sustain too.

Chabenda

Hmmm... does this effectively make the body "Blockwood"? ?

Chabenda

Well, last week saw the first taste of colour coat on the body. I had asked Senhor Gecko to green it up a little.

Perhaps a little more blue?

Gearhead

... And a little less orange (peel) ? ?

Chabenda

Haha! Don't worry about the orange peel. I don't think that guitars leave Neon Gecko's hands looking that 'fruity'!

?

The green is growing on me! It's looking good. ?

AlanRatcliffe

Going green is fine, Greenburst even better. Just don't go blue to green (dragon) burst. I'm not fond of that...

Attila

I thought you were going transparent blue ?

or is green the new blue ....I cant keep up ?

Chabenda

Well, initially the 'blue' that I had in mind was a little greener than that in the renders. I believe that the guitar also has 'a say' - karma, whatever.. If it has decided to be little greener then so be it.

Hmmmm...blue green dragon burst you say.... interesting ? Like a furry dashboard or an orange on the antenna hey... Made in Benoni....hmmmm... ?

Chabenda

Ahhhhh......Neon Gecko, what a man! He wasn't happy with the way that paint turned out - so he re did it! I don't know about him but I think that it looks bloody marvelous!

?

Doesn't the rear look like a beautiful woman in an evening gown??

Attila

Damn !!! now that's sexy .......

Psean

Nice! The grain shows up much better now ?

Chabenda

The blue is now on and she's one step closer to being ready!! I can't wait to see her with the hardware and pick guard mounted!!

I think that the scratch plate is going to contrast beautifully!!

Squonk

Good stuff

Chabenda

Well, the body is ready for polishing! The neck is next!! He he!!! Don't change the visa requisites - I'm coming!!!! Here are some pics of the body before it goes through Neon Gecko's rigorous polishing process. The f hole 'binding' is done. I am very happy with the colour. It has the exact blue and green that I wanted. The blue reminds me of some colour that I saw in my mind whilst I was quite .....um ...err ...laid back...

Roll on November!!!! Wooo hooo! ?

AlanRatcliffe

OK. That I could learn to like, the green is quite subtle.

Thanks Alan! 8)

Neon Gecko had this to say about the polishing - "When I am done I'd be disappointed if a fly lands on the finish and doesn't slip and break it's neck haha."

Amen.

Big-G

Its looking stunning bro! I'm kind of a bit pig sick jealous!

Love the quote of Sir Gecko! Brilliant!

Regards
G!

The refinished green looks so much better than the first attempt and that blue is just plain stunning. She's going to look seriously hot in those cool colours!

Complements to Neon Gecko. Stunning craftsmanship!
