Hi Brothers in arms!

Anybody here in the know about mics?
I want to buy either the Peavey PVi100, Shure SV100 or Shure SV200.
Any experienced suggestions?
Don't own one personally. Spoke with a music shop salesman about the PV's who said that they were affordable and quite robust (meaning drop test)
Not the quality of Sure or AKG but usable. Mostly purchased for school/ church use where they need to be durable.
I have no knowledge of the Sure 1/200 range
      Thanks for your input Stoffel!
My reason for wanting a new mic, I had the Peavey PVi100 for a number of years
and the other day it rolled off the table onto the floor!. Now it doesn't work anymore!!
It has an easy replaceable magnetic cartridge, but I could not get any information on this, even
on the net!!! Pity, because it is a robust and good sounding mic for the price.
I believe Shure gives all their mic's drop tests before leaving the factory and that shure is good news!
I LUV my SM58... The other vocal mic in my band (Sennheiser) goes through squeaks and howls during set-up, while my SM58 never utters a single sound. 8)

Hey Rocker Gramps, I'd rather go SM58 but they have become very expensive, so on a cheaper side maybe try the Shure PG 58, that said on Amazon.com they sell the GLS range (Shure SM Clones) just check out the stella reviews...

I often use an AKG Condenser (C535) for my voice, but usually default to the SM58 for anyone else, which is predictable, reliable and robust. My oldest 58 is 20+ years old now and still going strong. I've strayed from 58s on occasion through the years, but usually ended up regretting it and swapping out with a 58 a few songs in.

The others you mention, I don't know, so can't recommend or reject. I can say if you're on a budget, I can recommend the Sure SM48. Any lower than that and you're risking it IMO.
Yes. Agree with the above. Just buy an SM58 and gain a life-long friend. No need to bother with his cousins, cos eventually, you will buy a 58. Might as well do it now and get it over and done with.
Thanks a lot you guys, you've all been a great help!
I'll go for the suggestion to save up and buy the SM58.
It seems the most logical thing to do. Thanks again
SM58 is the way to go - as per Arno's comment mine has been a "friend" since 1991, survived numerous falls, and sounds like it should be good for many more years.

Seems to me the best there is! Now, just to save up and buy one! Thanks Brian.
Has anyone here used the SM87? I am thinking of getting one. Seems like a really awesome mic. Just crazy expensive.

Have you already got a SM58?

Great live mic, although it doesn't suit every voice (I think it generally suits female voices better than male, and it can be an unflattering choice for some voices) and prefer the Beta58 for an all rounder hypercardioid.

Try it on a snare drum though - very nice (as long as you don't have an aversion to putting condensers where a drummer can get to 'em with his sticks).

I already have a SM58. I am just looking for something a little more responsive, that's why I am looking at the 87. I tried a AKG D5. Great mic but doesnt suit my voice. The 87 is just so expensive to go through the same issue again. The Beta 58 might be the best option then for me as I know the SM58 does work for me. And it's halve the price of the Beta 87.

                              Ps. Sorry for the hi-jack.

Try it first. For my voice I love the SM58, hate the Beta 58. For others, the opposite can be true.
Gigantic +1 to StudMissile ... the OM-5 is insanely good ... I use one never had issues - LOTS of clarity handles high SPLs well ...
While I agree that the SM58 is a great mic, my Sennheiser e835 seems to suit my voice better. It's also very robust.
Nobody considering an AKG? I love mine... Unless I made a bad call when I pulled the trigger?
