Been on the lookout for a Les Paul for a long time, but never really found one in my budget (and new prices are just frightening). Spotted this one today and went and picked it up: nice guitar in decent condition (regular play wear), I think just a pickup swap is in order and I'll have a winner.

    Congrats!

I've always liked the look of the red studios...
      The gold hardware is pretty!
Real nice, congratulations. Ive played a lot with my friend's LP studio, and love it!! is yours the LP studio Plus?

Hmm, studios have never really appealed to me in the looks department. I guess maybe because of the missing binding. However, this one speaks to me. Very cool. Nice addition Shreddy. Interesting time for you to be purchasing gear though isn't it?
unlike most i prefer the unbound simple look of the studio over the other models........ i just find their bodies are too small for me ........

but yes congrats great buy and like alan said great finish

Same with me, I quite like the looks on this for some reason, though it's not as drop-dead pretty as a nicely topped standard or custom. I don't mind the lack of binding on the red studio, not sure why.

My wife said something similar ? But, in my defense, I've already paid for my container to be shipped at the end of May so whatever I can stuff in there will just go with me, and that includes all my gear. Prices in New Zealand look comparable to here but I'm not sure what sort of selection will be available etc.

This was a good deal I think, only paid R8k. Gonna go look at some Gibson pickups now, do you guys reckon Classic '57 or Burstbuckers?

Yes, not a very high grade flame or anything but a maple top nonetheless. I think it's important for that true "Les Paul" tone, although I think this is a chambered body.

                  I don't think so. It's a 2005 model.

Funny you should mention that, but hanging on the wall next to my Tele it actually looks quite small!

Yeah I've seen some studios that omit the maple top altogether. May be the newer ones.
As for pickups, I vote Burstbuckers. A 1 and 2 combo should serve you well.
If you're moving to the land of rugby and hobbits you can really use Ebay to buy some great stuff imo.
I don't know what sound you're after but a set of Lollar humbuckers off of Ebay or the like is what I would do.

Either way, congrats on the new Gibby. :yup:
I ended up with a set of Classic '57s, and they sound great.

Pity they didn't have the gold covered ones, but I'm impatient like that so I just took the stock they had (one black, one zebra). Guitar looks a bit less pretty, but once I've made the move I'll maybe look at ordering some fancy boutique 'buckers with gold covers.

Oi Freddy! Binding or no binding, small bod or larger, I would give my months pay to own a guit like that. Good find, good buy and good vibrations man. Oh and it IS a real Gibby LP ?

I agree with that pickup selection. Also get some Gibson 500k long shaft Audio pots, some new caps and wire up a new 50's style harness.

Pull the gold covers off the stock pups and stick em onto the new ones? Spare all our retina's and cover up that zebra monstrosity! ? ?

That was my plan, but they're soldered on pretty tight, and the screws on these pups are the wrong colour in any case.
