Hey people

So I have had my little squier for a while now, and would like an opinion on the guitar... Is it good, average, rubbish?

Should I consider upgrading some of the components?

I dont play the electric nearly as much as my acoustics, but I've practicing a fair amount lately to get my muting right, and doing some soloing/improv...

Any thoughts?
Bullets aren't total rubbish, but i dont think you would do yourself any harm by getting an Mim strat in its place. That won't financially incapacitate you and its a fine upgrade.

      This ^^
A secondhand mim strat should be 4-5k. Another option is to get a guitar with humbuckers if you want like an epiphone or something that will also give you variety. Then you have 2 different tones and plenty more room for experimenting.
So maybe I need to go and play some different guitars then... What are the tokai Gibson lookalike guitars like? Any suggestions around the 6k mark from brands other than fender.. Electrics I don't know a lot about

The squier is probably not bad at all. You could get away with a pickup change to a set of Artecs or GFS but I wouldn't blow any more cash moneys on any other upgrades...

What you could do is buy a nice aftermarket body, set of pickups and tremolo, use the Bullet neck and put together a nice partscaster for yourself. Depending which parts you get, it could work out as an awesome cheap alternative to a new guitar.

Otherwise a Squier Classic vibe is a better option. I'd pick one over a MIM Fender.

Edit: Just to clarify my "number 1" at the moment is a Squier SE Strat
My first ever electric was (is) a Squier Standard series Strat made in Indonesia. Cost me R1600 10 years ago. I've since modded it somewhat, with a different finish and a set of Reilander p90s. This is one of 2 guitars I play every day (some days, it's the only guitar I play).

I guess my point is this: It matters not whether the guitar is good or bad, but really what it is you're getting from it.
Squier Bullets are generally considered rubbish, but you can always get a good example of a bad guitar - or a bad example of a good guitar for that matter.

Bottom line though is, don't invest too much in it unless we're talking components that you can strip off and use on the next guitar again.

Play some other guitars and find out for yourself if your guitar has any deficiencies. If there's a big difference, it may be worth changing up, if not, maybe wait to see how much electric playing grabs you in the future.

                  Nothing wrong with Squiers!

They are the best manufactured guitars in their price range!
I also have one with the humbucker at bridge.
Nice action and sound too especially the neck pick-up when you play blues.
The Squier range of guitars are very much underrated by people. OK it's not
a standard Strat, but this buddy can rock as is, make no mistake! 8)
