Hi all...

So I'm looking at getting a looper pedal.. Been googling around but not a lot of it makes sense to me yet.

Any ideas on what's a good place to start ? I've been researching the vox lil looper and the tc electronics ditto x2...

Thanks in advance

I guess a good place to start would be by deciding what you want to do with the looper.
Just wanna use it to play some chords for you to improvise over in your room? Well almost any of them would do.
wanna use it in a band, with a drummer who plays to a click track? Well then you'll need one that allows you to set an exact bpm tempo rather than just a tap tempo.
If you wanna use it for a solo Imogen Heap/Jeremy Loops type one man band, then maybe look for one that allows different layers on each loop rather than making you save a new loop after recording each one.
I am definitely looking for the latter in your response

Something I can say, play a few simple backing chords, then add an ad lib improv riff over, then add to that, then add to that... is that layering?

      If so, any recommendations?
Ive got the Boss RC-3, does a great job for a single stomp box looper.
The TC Electronic Flashback X4 has a looper as well as a delay.

If you already have a delay that's a bummer though...

I've heard some guys find the over-simplistic design of the Ditto looper annoying. All of its shortcomings are resolved in the X4 though. It also allows overdubbing/layering, undo/redo and a nifty 'play once' option.

It doesn't allow you to save any loops though

I've got a Boss RC-30. It does a lot of things and I dont know what all. But it does them well enough I reckon. It covers what you say you need. I've done a bit of that.
I've read some negative feedback on delay for live performance on the rc-30... Anyone care to comment ?

So I've been doing some more research regarding these looper pedals...

My requirements are evolving a little:

                1. I need to be able to switch between tracks without lag, for live performance
                2. Being able to do some minor recording and export those tracks from the pedal would be cool
                3. A mic input would be cool too... I like to sing and scare the neighbours

The RC-30 has all of these things, but I see a fair amount of complaining regarding lag between switiching tracks for live performance.. Can anyone verify this?
RC-30 sounds like your bet yes.
Lag was fixed in version 1.3 of the software if im not mistaken.
                  Otherwise, v1.4 fixes it.

I've never used one myself but I'd love to play around on one...
