Hi Guys

Lets see your Fender Custom shops

The first pic is a crappy Blackberry shot

The second is a glamour shot that I got online.

Fender Custom Shop 1956 NOS Strat (New Old Stock)

Alder Body

10/56 "V" Neck Profile
9.5" Radius
Medium Jumbo Frets
Custom Shop Fender '50s Strat Pickups

    Pardon my ignorance

Other than the custom shop pups those specs seem pretty standard.. what makes a .CS fender so special other than the builder?

By that same token, what's the difference between a US Standard and a Mex Standard? Or a Mex Standard and a Squier Strat? Specwise they are all near identical.

The difference comes in the quality of the materials, the quality of the workmanship and the level of quality control.
Fender's Custom Shop is where the hand built, high end instruments are made. They don't have to be ( but can be) one-offs with bizarre wiring, exotic pickups and in obtaining plated tuning pegs. The name of the brand is a little misleading

they compare CS fenders often with how a fender was made "back in the day"
selection of wood, hand wounded pups, a lot of manual labour.....

          and thats a nice 56 NOS ?
            a month later
On the left: my Limited Edition 2009 Custom Shop Clapton Signature Strat in Daphne Blue. On the right my 2011 Custom Shop Custom Classic in Translucent Honey Blonde over an ash body. The neck on the blonde has some lovely birdseye maple figuring that seems to be getting more pronounced as it ages.

my one and only (and for various reasons, probably last ever) strat was a honey blonde highway one. it's a beautiful colour on strats. not saying there aren't others that are great, but i have a particular (ahem) affinity for the honey blondes. this is a wonderful example, i bet you get great pleasure out of simply looking at her, let alone playing.

              enjoy
