So last week i was taken to Afrikaans is Groot at the NG Moreleta Park church.

Firstly, fantastic venue. 7000 seats, and it was fantastic sound and organisation wise.
Upon first entering, i though it might be some kind of toyota hilux convention due to the rows and rows of hilux 4x4s, but after parking and making our way to the hall, i was pleasantly surprised to see that we were indeed at the right place ?

But seriously now, the seats were comfortable and everything was great.
We sat on the second floor, but had a perfect view of the stage and all the happenings.
As a dance instructor, i was also thoroughly impressed with their dancers. So well choreographed and added to the show.
School choirs and drummies also formed part of the show. The music was good, and the show was great.

But back to Mr Oosthuizen.
This guy is seriously underrated in my opinion.
Saw him play at skouspel a few times and was impressed.
but damn, he really is a phenomenal player.

The band overall was very tight, but i really enjoyed watching Juan play.
Seriously have to find more songs from this guy!

Oh, and im pretty sure he also has a custom from Grant (Grants Custom guitars / TOMS Sandton).

Once again, you guys need to check him out!!!! ?
"Floors" and Mauritz Lotz are pretty much SAfricas top session guitarists, both brilliant/world class musos.

He's only underrated by those SA guitarists who don't know him. ?
He's also played on every SA Idols.

And, he's a very very lekker oke. ?
The problem with session muso's on cds etc, is that you cannot always find out who played on what!
Especially since most music i buy isnt on cd, but digital.

But i can understand why Floors gets used a lot! He's great! ?
I used to watch mauritz a lot in the early 90's when he was doing 6 string razor and the like.....late night als at bruma etc...... man I was impressed...also we used to go to the same gym so used to chat a bit then he disappeared off my radar completely and one day I saw him on tv on some arb show and the penny dropped... session work pays the bills and buys the whiskey but I wish mauritz would play more gigs ....

will watch out for this floors ou, never heard of him but have watched idols in years gone by so have heard him

Seen Juan Oosthuizen with Juanita Du Plessis.
I remember seeing a red strat and hearing good tone.
Sorry..just wanted to throw in 2 more names.

            Luke Van der Merwe
            Michael Bester
I think we need a za guitarist appreciation thread?!

Coz i can think of a few that we hear too little of!
Anton L'amour is another good player worth a mention.

Dude... I like you a lot more now!
I reaally love Anton L'amour's playing!!
There are some serious players on this forum!

Of that, im under no illusion. Thats a fact!

Thomas of Johnny Clegg, PJH to name avfew off the top of my head!

But im talking about the pros who do this for a living ?
Not the seriously good bedroom players! There are quite a few of those too!

Thomas of Jesse Clegg, and Andy Innes of Johnny Clegg. ?

Andy Innes is a monster player.

A good friend & fellow forumite who is tech-ing for Johnny Clegg at the moment can attest to Andy's awesomeness

His 'main' guitar is his Sienna Burst Ash Fender Strat.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I held the guitar, I've never seen natural wear on a guitar like this.
It's kind of hard to describe.
The top (where the thumb slides around) and bottom of the neck both have a indentation into the maple that is about 1.5mm deep and about a centimetre wide...through the finish and into the actual wood. ???
I couldn't believe it, I asked him if it was natural wear?, he laughed and said yes. ?

                              Who might that be?
Not only are Andy and Johnny great people, they are both serious players - make no mistake! Andy has the finest ear I've come across - and I thought I'd met quite a few really good ones. What a musical man - arrangement, voice, and guitar all top class.

Back on topic: I've been super-impressed with Floors since first hearing him quite some years ago. A very versatile and tasteful player!

Indeed.. I have since found out that his setup for Afrikaans is Groot included 2 Fender Deville Amps in stereo, BB preamp,Blues Driver,Bogner Extacy Blue and a Crunch box. He also used an Eventide Time Factor Delay unit!

And let me tell you, he gets a wide and great variety of tones!
Floors is an absolute monster player. I've had the privilege to share a stage with him a few times, with Nianell, Heinz Winckler, Kurt Darren and in the early days of the Jesse band when I was still on keys. He rolls his tone control back on his strat often, as it's pretty bright. JB pickup set. He's sounded killer with a BD-2 and Line 6 DM4, a DS-1 and the MI stuff. Something tells me it's not the pedals. ? Rides his volume pedal (post dirt) all the time. I've got some desk mixes of one of the shows, and he just kills.

Underrated SA pros? Maaaaaaan. Just off the top of my head I really dig the following "session" type guys in addition to those already mentioned. I'm sure I'm missing a whole whack too.

                                  Gideon Botes
                                  Johan Rautenbach
                                  Alistair Coakley
                                  Robin Walsh

But all the cats me mentioned are stellar. And down to a man, humble decent human beings.

                                    Thanks for that Thomas!

And speaking of Gideon, he was the accompanying rhythm guitarist at the show!
But yeah, they can play ? and its really good tone!
Surprised nobody has mentioned Albert Frost...his blues stuff is good, but some of his work with Arno Carstens is awesome, and he gets a stunning tone..

Welll, considering this thread is really about "Floors" ?
but yeah, will start a new thread for ZA Musos in general!
