  • NPD: My R50 pedal purchase!!!

So TOMS is busy having their yearly sale. I only planned to stock up on strings. But I browsed around and got stuck looking at all the pedals on sale. After a while I kneeled down and picked up a pedal box and asked a sales guy how much because it didn't have a price on it. He turned and said I could it have it for R50.
Bought it on the spot!

This is it.

Played it a little. And I am impressed so far. Altogether a good day.
Dammit. I put the post in the wrong section. Sorry!!!
      I'll give you R60 for it ?

      Cool.
Gotta love a bargain like that. Hoe does it sound in your setup?
Ok thats the deal of the year .... There was a 2nd hand one on gumtree for R600 and i bought the 65 deluxe reverb amp pedal new which is a hint more expensive in list price but of the same series for R1200 new it was market R1900 on the box .... So the bassman pedal for R 50 is incredible deal ....

Well done you scored a huge luck there
I like the pedal. Using it with a Egnater Tweaker I set the pedal for an edge of breakup sound and its good! I dig that it has bass, middle, treble and presence controls.

I was using a OCD clone by Joyo for the low gain sound, and now being able to tweak the tone more precisely with the Boss is kinda cool.

            However...............!

The Joyo took my other drive pedals really well before or after the pedal. But I'm still trying to suss out how the Boss takes the drive pedals. So far not that great.

So I don't know if I should treat the Boss as a amp sim in a stomp box. Or another drive pedal?
Does it give a fair representation of an actual bassman? As an amp sim? I've always been interested in these pedals
To my knowledge, its more of an amp sim than anything else.

Congrats on the npd, for a more than steller price!
I would be lying if I gave any opinion on if it gives a fair representation of the original Bassman or not because I've never played on one. But it sounds good to my ears ?

Still not getting on with other drive pedals though.

What i have also tried is using the FBM1 with my Zoom G3 and a keyboard amp. Using the FBM1 alone makes it sound like a normal drive pedal would If you plug it straight into a PA, all fizzy and farty. So I guess it's a amp sim pedal masquerading as a drive pedal. But it sounded good when I played the FBM1 into the G3 with amp sims on from the G3.

With both setups I do get the feeling I'm playing into a different amp when the FBM1 is on. As opposed to just switching in a drive pedal for extra dirt. And it's very dynamic. You can really dig in and get extra grit out if the pedal if you wanted to. And it's got a nice bit of sparkle or sizzle to it as well.

So all in all a good R50 purchase.
And.....I saw this exact pedal selling for R700 on Gumtree today. I would buy almost any pedal for R50.

Even anything with the word "metal" in it?? (See Metalzone ?)
Hated my Boss HM2 till I put my new Tonerider Generators thru it, now I'm hearing it and it fits.

                          +1
                          Even a Metalzone

My best so far is R90 for an old battered DOD Octoplus. This beats that by miles. Nice find!
Well I must admit I nearly got a bit carried away with the sale with the cheap pedals. Nearly walked out with a MXR double shot distortion for R350. Was standing in line to pay and I thought to myself do I reeeeeaaaally need a distortion pedal. The FBM for R50 was a no brainer, but the MXR was a nah, rather not. Bought a bunch of strings and a Hercules wall hanger instead ?
