Hi Guys,
A friend of mine does quite a lot of video interviews and promotional type video clips which mixes some voice and some background music and has become very good at the visual aspect.
He now feels he needs to jack up the audio side of things.
What would a good portable device be? I told him about the m-audio fast track pro and similar which could be nice for interviews as he can record two different microphones at once (one for each person) and then eq them separately, it is also USB powered so its nice and portable.
He is using a Apple mac book and already has garageband installed so he can use that as his DAW. Would this be the right kind of device for him or am I leading him in the wrong direction?
Thanks!

I would say he would be better off using a portable /battery powered recorder -
Zoom H4N or the Tascam DR-100 or the likes which can take XLR inputs so he can mic up 2 seperate sound sources without the need of luggin around a laptop and interface and power supplies etc.
Then you can just grab the recordings off the SD card and edit them on you laptop when you get home...

Yeah, those zoom jobbies are brilliant. Let him check out their range and let his wallet decide.

What's his budget? I know one of the Boss fx pedal boards and new Zoom products come with Cubase LE software bundled in and USB out for recording.
Edit: Looked on the web and saw that most of the Zoom recording products come with Cubase.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback!
I think the portable zoom devices are a good option. He doesn't need anything for music recording, I think being able to do at least two separate tracks (like interviewer and interviewee) is probably the most important feature for now.
Thanks again, I will let him know about the portable devices.
