Herringbone turned out to be Hugh Cumming's band. I should have guessed. They had a guest player, a mandolin player from Texas. They turned in a neat set of bluegrass and western swing. John van Nierop played well on guitar.

Cameron Bruce is a young singer-songwriter-guitarist who I get to see every 6 months or so. And each time I think "boy! He's improved since the last time."

TJs has been such a great learning ground for Cameron. When he first sang there in 2007, it was his first official "gig"! People like Ken Baines, Chris Nash and Hugh Cummings have been invaluable sources of advice (and equipment). Every young musician should give TJs a try - the sound is great, the people are great and the food is great. A super evening out. Cameron is currently in Idols on MNET. The judges loved him - he's playing a Martin, Hugh! Watch and vote!

Is he the 6ft5" laid back guy who looks and sounds like John Mayer? Thought I saw a Martin there.

Seems very talented. I was impressed.

Hey Gerry, what about us older Muso's? ?

I've seen Cameron play a few times now - including that first "official" gig. He's come on in leaps and bounds. He also got involved in one of Andy McGibbon's singer/songwriter competitions. There's nothing like playing in front of people for raising your game.

I tell myself that he's a got a great future - or at the very least is going to be fighting off the girls. A big, good-looking guy who writes these really sensitive, candid songs.

You get plenty of them too.
