Following on from my post of her music on the youtube vid page....

Just realised she pretty much does all the instruments herself, she composes and arranges, she plays the guitar parts with the mad robot fuzz tones that are to die for, she plays the bass and the keys....just the brass really that she uses session musos for...

A face like this...

With a pedalboard like this...

and guitars like this...

And the voice of an angel...I think know I'm in love... :'(
Annie Clark/ St Vincent is awesome... I was lucky enough to pay a show with her last year in New York. As well as going back in October again to play a festival opening up for her.
Live she is insane good. Awesome Awesome. She uses two fuzz factorys last time I saw.
Is that the only fuzz she uses? An idea if she uses the whammy in conjunction with the fuzz factory to get the low octave fuzz sounds or is that just the fuzz factory?
Btw can you recommend any more bands in the same vein? (Zulu Wave is pretty cool i hear ?) And stoked for you getting to play with her! Must have been epic!
Well she started out as the Guitarist for Sufjan Stevens, that would be my first place to start looking. I dont like him as much but some people love him.

She used whammy to get low octave stuff and a boss harmonist pedal. Also with the FF you get that almost octave down thing going on at times. She ran two of them at different settings. Those were all she had in the way of fuzz, but I have heard she uses the mastotron on occasion, hence the reason why I got one. haha. But sold it pretty fast.

Looks like we are the only guys coming to this party thread haha, everyone one else is still hung up on SRV
No... I'm here too... just watching from the shadows... learning... waiting.... a silent protector.... a dark Knight. ?
Yeah - just waiting until bandwidth allows me to watch the Youtoobs...
I could get into this. Nice voice, cool fuzz tones
She's always reminded me of something like a cross between Adrian Belew and Bjork. That's a good thing IMO. ?
MIKA the better one wrote: Well she started out as the Guitarist for Sufjan Stevens, that would be my first place to start looking. I dont like him as much but some people love him.
Will definitely be checking that out...my digitech whammy is waiting for me at the post office and I ordered some AC128 Germaniums for a Fuzz Factory build now thanks to her inspiration...I think my guitar-playing life has just taken a drastic turn for the best ?
+1 to what Alan said. I was initially reminded of Abba (which is weird..for me).
Nice voice and good production, but not my cup of tea because i'm not big on fuzz.
I'm still hung up on SRV ?
She uses a new pedalboard with a DBA Overdriver and ZVEX Mastroton, and an Eventide space and pitchfactor, all MIDI controlled. It is rather rad. I want a Space so bad after seeing her use one...
If you guys like St Vincent, check out David Byrne & St. Vincent. Lacking some fuzzly awesomeness, but the music is still pretty great.

                          That mastodon is MEAN.
                            =

2.10 is a complete hijack of her tone.
Haha I love it, she kind of has it more gated with a Fender amp you get more highs and lows less mids.....

                            =

First song is one of the best... some classy reverb playing too
Yeah, no doubt about it, even besides the fuzz madness she can actually play!

For those not into the fuzziness quite so much this is quite hendrixy...
                              =
                                Thanks Kalcium.
Enjoyed "Dig a pony" very much.

                                :goodtimes:

I wanna see if I cant find some more of this type of playing from her...will be sure to post if I do...must say I really enjoy both styles though...any idea what shes using on her voice? I assume its a harmonising vocal effects pedal or possibly a kind of detune chorus effect?
Kalcium wrote: ...any idea what shes using on her voice? I assume its a harmonising vocal effects pedal or possibly a kind of detune chorus effect?
Sounds like chorus or a doubling effect (detuning pitch shift with a short delay).

Much like the detune on the digitech whammy...makes sense, thanks ?
