What do you drink when singing? I find lots of stuff feels like it's restricting my vocals. What works and what doesn't? Any magic potions?
Tea with honey - I know a lot of professional singers who drink that before their gigs. OBS tends to relax the vocal cords a little when they're strained. Others just stick to water. Try to avoid anything carbonated or too cold. Hope that helps. ?

It's just OB now, the EU forced us to drop the Sherry ☹

But OB(S) is good stuff all round - nerves, voice and conversation
Room temperature water. Boring but effective.

            +1

Alcohol dehydrates and that is bad for the vocal chords, but a couple of shots of tequila sure helps with the nerves and the stage personality!!!

What NOT to have 3 hours before singing...yogurt, cheese, milk, any dairy product!

What to eat 10 minutes before singing/recording....slap chips (no vinegar)!

What to take during set breaks....hip flask/thermos of not too hot water with 3 teaspoons honey and juice of one lemon...just a few sips will do!

When singing at a cold gig....wrap a scarf around your neck before you go into the cold, keep it on until actual singing time, put it back on between sets!

absolutely ...... bet the vocal rock gods had shares in Jack daniels ..... they swigged it straight from the bottle .... lots of free onstage advertising

on a serious note .... most of these rituals are psycosymatic .... if you believe it's a 'muti" it will calm your apprehension and that relaxed mode will help your vocals ....so many vocalists i have worked with all had very different "muti" .but what really works is just learning great technique ......... not so long ago i worked with a music graduate who majored in voice ...... and even if she was sick she could do a gig and sing well .....we worked together for 2 years and never did she complain about a sore throat ..or have to cancel a show ....... great technique no "shouting" .... maybe she's the exception but i do believe too many 'singers" never learn the correct technique and then as soon as they need to perform regularly suffer with nodules and throat issues

it's amazing that most musicians spend years mastering their instruments , spending money on lessons, but few actually learn and put as much effort and work into learning how to sing correctly ...there are good and bad techniques ...so chose the better ones and go to a pro for lessons ...it will pay off .......

I'm constantly amazed by singers screaming into microphones at live gigs.

If you want to save your voice instead of blowing it towards the
                  end of every gig...

here's the Golden Rule: YOUR VOICE ONLY HAS TO REACH THE MICROPHONE...

LET THE P.A. DO THE WORK.....TRY IT SOMETIME...YOU'LL BE AMAZED...
