  • Great article on the history of Celestion

Hi guys and gals,

I was doing some research the other day and came across this article on the history of Celestion speakers:

Celestion Loudspeakers: From Blues to Greenies and beyond

I finally found out from reading this article that my vintage Marshall cab is most likely a 1970 to 1973 1935A bass cab. The reason why I think so is the fact that it has G12M 25W 55Hz Creambacks, which were bass speakers and plus, it looks JUST like the cab in the picture in the article. Yes CREAMbacks. The magnet cover, which usually is forest green, is cream coloured, which were made in 1972 - 1973.

Anyhoo, it was interesting to note that if you're a pre-Rola (pre-1970) fanatic, I'm afraid there's not much difference because Rola had owned Celestion since 1947. The only difference was the Celestion logo on the magnet cover. HOWEVER. All Celestion speakers were originally fitted with Pulsonic cones, which were made at another factory off-site that burned down in 1973 or 1974. This means that any speaker made prior to 1973 was a pulsonic speaker and therefore the same as any pre-Rola. They then switched to their own RIC branded cones for about a year or two and then finally to Kurt Mueler cones from 1975 onwards.

My Celestions are pre-1975 but they got re-coned a few years ago with official Celestion recone kits so they are unfortunately not the highly sought after Pulsonic Celestions.

It's amazing how much people will pay for a name (pre-Rola) instead of knowing exactly why they're buying an item.

Cheers ?
    Thanks.

Yeah, for some reason when I posted the normal link it sent you to the comments page and said you had to login to view the article. But when you clicked on the google search link, it took you to the right page but said that you were viewing it from the google cache. Strange.

            Cheers ?
It won't let me view it, says I need to register. ☹

Can someone maybe quote paste the article?
