Chabenda wrote: Alan, I'll look for the saw. It is beautifully figured wood and WELL seasoned. I'm not sure what it is though.
I think it's walnut, which makes a good top wood.

Actually, with the way pianos have become such white elephants for most people these days, I've often considered them as a potentially good source of reclaimed wood. Also the older they are, the higher the quality the wood and the more likely they are unplayable - especially the older wood framed types (often with built in candlestick holders). Of course a well cared for Steinway, Bosendorfer or similar top piano is always going to hold it's value for those who can afford them and have the space, but the less well known names are already selling for under R5K or even being given away. Bill Knight has an old piano he was given - all beautiful, solid, English crotch walnut...
Delicious collection man. What'd I do to deserve a '72 Strat? ? (I'm sure more than a few on this forum are wondering whether I shouldn't rather be left a ticking bomb ? )
That Tele looks so cool! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Start it now. I'll post a few pics. Got some beaten up Strats lurking around...

Love that these have real scars ? Great collection you have there.

Singe - I reckoned that the Strat would go well with your 'Super Hero' avatar but The Parlotones Appreciation Society did request that I leave you the Tele in the hope that Coynegfsa would do you in for it. Discussions are on going.

            ?
Right, I have started an Old timers thread - come on Arno, post them pics!!
Cool thread. I'm very interested to see what you guys have? My Strat's still got a way to go before it can be considered road worn :-\

Psean, Hopefully the thread will still be around in a few years! (25-30?? ?)

Hehe? I hope to play the thing enough that it looks old before then - it's about 15 years old and I've had it for 5. The maple board is showing some wear and there are small ding's and things. No old timer though?

                      What an amazing collection!

Thanks Uncle! - I have just added an old, beaten up Framus acoustic to it. It's in quite bad nick and has been extensively played. She's going to be tuned to G and used for slide.

I have also just received an old '80s Hohner G2 headless 6 string from forum member Stubbs. I have named it after an infamous disabled athlete as it looks like an amputee.
Is that a tenor uke? It looks to be bigger than the more usual concert uke.
You've got me there X-rated Bob - I haven't got a clue. I'll take a couple of close ups and post them - then you can tell me!!! ?

I'm just looking at the size of it relative to the guitars.

There's a whole family of ukes. When I saw the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain a few years back they had all sorts of stuff on stage with them. The two "lead" players seemed to be playing tenors. One of the band pulled a sopranino uke from inside his jacket. Another member had a resonator uke.

This picture shows a range of ukes with a guitar for a reference

So that goes guitar, baritone uke, tenor uke (looks about the same size as yours), resonator soprano uke (the soprano uke is what most people think of when they think "uke") and what the blogger refers to as a "pocket uke".
