There is a difference, but it's subtle, especially in the neck position where the difference between the position along the string makes little difference.
Especially with covered pickups, the screws are closer to the string, so the screw coil is usually louder. With the screw coil stock, turned to the neck side the guitar will usually be a smidgen fatter and warmer than reversed.
