  • Gearhounds.com...anyone use them?

Hey guys,

Has anyone here bought and shipped anything from gearhounds.com before?

If so, how did it go?

I am currently looking into buying a guitar from them that's (according to a SA retailer) "special order" only. Well, I did the math and if I buy and ship the thing myself I will be paying about a third of the price the SA retailer wants to rip me for....around R5800 if I do it myself, versus around R17k the retailer wants!!!!I asked if we're referring to the same guitar as I cannot believe this is possible....waiting for feedback or egg-on-face excuse...

Gearhounds is the only shop I've found offering shipping to SA as well it appears.

Also, what can I expect to pay in terms of taxes/duties?

Thanks a million!
Hey man, i got nothing to contribute but i am curious as to what you are wanting to buy? And did the retailer get back to you yet? It would seem silly for them not to give it to your for at least the same price? Unless its only a special order because they dont have the right connections for that brand? Have you tried another retailer or even distributor?

      +1

Try going as far as telling them "well I can order it online for x" maybe they'll rethink the abnormally high price (if it's the case). Also try more than one retailer, different retailers specialize in different brands.

Double check the gearhounds price on other places such as eBay to make sure they're not too low, if it's too good to be true, it normally is.

EDIT: I checked the site, it looks legit - just remember the added VAT and shipping fees.

Now where did I hear that before..LOL
Look ive never bought a guitar online, and probably never will
but even it if finally costs you R10K,you score, right?
Ive bought other things of about same value .... vat and customs always came to under R400
I say go for it,and spend the R7K difference on something extra..online..LOL
Hey... dont let the retailers warranty and backup scaremongering scare you,
everything only has 12mths warranty and something happening within that period is slim...
And guitars are either damaged in transit or last a lifetime...
I always take a chance....it always works out cheaper to pay postage and exchange it than paying the full price here anyways
