  • Real Music Wednesdays - October

This series is still running down at the Chalkboard Cafe in Maboneng. Free admission, good light meals available, good selection of beers and you can scribble on the furniture. If you want some eating option then there is Little Addis about 2 doors down or The Canteen about a block away (and there's others, but I haven't eaten at them so can't say anything about them).

The first of this month's gigs has come and gone already but for the rest of the month
10th - Bouwer Bosch
17th - Lacey May
24th - Frankie Beagle
31st - Hoot 'n Anny

Pre-show marketing stuff kicks off about 7pm, music usually kicks off about 8.30ish.

286 Fox Street (in the Main Street Life building, next door to the Bioscope). Plenty of security guys (proper, hired ones in uniforms) to watch your car, or you can book a space on the shuttle bus from the Rosebank Gautrain station.

OK... I'm going down there tonight, hopefully with Squonk, to check out Lacey May. I don't know much about them, but this sort of event is something I want to support, and I've enjoyed the previous RMW shows that I've seen, so off I go.

    Anybody else going?
I will be there too, I am huge fan of Lacey May

Were you there? I don't know how I'd recognise you, but I think I was fairly easy to spot ?

I thought they were polished at what they do, but it was a little too mainstream frothy for my liking. Bass a bit low in the mix, which was a pity as I thought he had some interesting lines. The main guitar player was one of those interesting players who, without ever really showing off, fills in the blanks and fleshes out the songs.

        Good crowd. Standing room only.
I was there, my sister and I were standing at the counter near the door.

I thought they were fantastic, they will do very well imho

I agree with the bass being too low in the mix along with Kelly's voice, her harmonies are amazing. Rob is an incredible guitar player that does much without doing a lot ?

We were the ones that started clapping during their cover of Etta James' At Last
