Hi guys(I'm new)
Do any of you have some suggestions or ideas on how to improve my ear? If you could pass down some advise or experience that would be great.
Thanx alot

Use it as much as possible, try work songs out more by ear than reading TAB/notation, try sing what you play/visa versa, try and jam/gig as mauch as possible - play in context in other words.
If you're a new player then getting some basic theory down always gives you the upper edge ... good luck !

Hi Peterpan
One of the most important parts of having your inner ear hear pitches is to try and sing them. I know alot of people have trouble with this, and sometimes don't even realise that they are off pitch completely.
My suggestion is to take a slow and simple song. You can take a melody that is sung for ease, and literally listen to ONE NOTE, get a programme that loops it, and loop it with your guitar in your hands, fishing up and down on one string all the way up from the open string to the 12th fret, until you hear what sounds IDENTICAL. I say identical because what sounds NICE is also likely to be a harmony of the melody, so don't get confused with that.
You should also try and lah or hum that note, and choose a song that is in a key not to difficult to sing the pitches of.

Eish thanks Meir! I often get caught by the harmony thing, now at least I know what I'm doing wrong ?

when Harry Seacombe (hope i spelt that right) from goon show fame ...who was also a trained opera singer was asked how he trained his voice to get perfect pitch...his reply was "first you lay out a few sheets of newspaper on the kitchen floor................"
pitch is relatively easy to learn... if you listen carefully each pitch has a colour to it ...same as a bIII has a colour as opposed to a natural III it is trial and error to begin with... but start by learning to listen more carefully first ..... with practise you will hear how the notes change and hear the intervals...... also make sure your guitar is 100% in tune... then play a note and sing it.... then try closing your eye's and finding the same not from memory ..... the more you play the more your ears will "hear" the notes....
some people are born with close to perfect pitch and good ears... and i can speak from experience i was not... i had to work twice as hard as most when i studied ear training..... but i got it and now well after a career in music biz i can't believe i couldn't get it all those years ago...... so just work at it ....and if you not a natural just don't give up ...the solution is work harder at it ....
hope this helps
peace and light
