I could handle a couple of Abba songs now and then, got me singin' along....and then..... I saw Mama Mia, oh Lordy.....
Well, the hits had Abba singing. The movie had Pierce Brosnan and Co singing - a bit of a difference. I've heard the sound track recording - it doesn't stand comparison to the real thing. I haven't seen the movie, but it seems to be the same sort of thing that was done with "We Will Rock You" - take a bunch of perfectly innocent songs and panel beat them into fitting a banal story line. It's quite possible that one could admire Queen (whose songs were used) and loath "We Will Rock You".
Some time ago I caught a documentary that featured Pete Waterman of Stock, Aitken and Waterman (the production team responsible for the likes of Rick Astlety) trying to put some kind of Abba tribute show together (this may have been the origins of "Mama Mia", I don't know). Anyhoo, here's a big name producer with loads of money behind him, with access to the best session players and singers in the UK, and he's having a real time finding girl singers who could deliver what Frida and Agnetha did. And it wasn't just studio trickery (which Abba were not above - listen to "Does Your Mama Know"), they'd done it live as well as in the studio.
Anyhoo, Abba may not fit many people's definitions of rock 'n roll or "worthy" or whatever, but don't judge the originals by the West End show-biz imitations. You'd make a mistake to listen to "We Will Rock You" and think you know Queen.
