Pink Floyd brilliant but soooo depressing,
Bruce Springsteen - hate,
Meat Loaf, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith ...

...........and here I was always thinking I must be the only sucker who could not "get" Pink Floyd, and everyone on GFSA knew something that I missed,
wow, do I feel relieved and "safe" now ............. :?
@ Lindsmuse ......Pink Floyd are depressing, full stop!! ☹
@ Guidothepimp ........ why do I get the feeling you don't like anyone/ band ........ ?
Nitebob
Does it even needs mentioning?
ABBA...I think Mamma Mia, should replace the water torture. Personally, I would rather you rip out my fingernails and dip em in salt...but thats just me...
Funny though that U2 is regarded by some as the best (seems monotonouos to me) and Queen (as far as I know, I might be wrong) is the only band with a fan club for over eighties...the Geriatric Queen Appreciation Society....but ya, I don't own any of their albums either.
Gary Moore...brilliant guitarwork, but keep yer damn piehole shut.
Obvious ones: Kurt Darren...

LOL. Dude, around here you'll get crucified if you confess to actually liking the Parlotonedeafs.

Don't worry, I don't think you're alone here on GFSA in disliking ABBA. In fact, I don't think you'll find many here who do - but I'm still a resolute fan of them. I don't care how cheesy they were and I don't care what ire I might elicit from the GFSA crowd but I still love 'em.

I find it interesting how many people dislike U2, regardless of sentiments surrounding Bono. I've never been a great fan of them either. Their music was just too repetitive for my liking and it didn't seem to contain much in terms of musical quality.
Then I moved to Ireland for a couple of years and I realised pretty quickly I'd be deported if I made it known that I am not madly and completely in love with U2. ? But seriously, after enough time I actually really did start to like their music and, though I was hooked already by the time they performed at Soccer City, that performance just sealed it.
I'm not sure how much of my love for them now is for the musical value of their songs and how much is for sentimental value of my years in Dublin. Either way, I'm a pretty hardcore fan these days.

I'm a bit of a fan. Those girls could really sing (and I mean really) and there's top notch craftsmanship in the songs and the recordings. Like many a great pop band they're a singles band, so all you need is a decent greatest hits compilation. Very smart band with great hooks in their hits, ingenious productions and Agnetha Faltskog was (maybe still is) a superb singer.

Nitebob.....remember ABBA was in the 70's....a decade so much different to the 2000's....and in the 70's they were biiiig news for good reason. I disliked Bing Crosby's style because he was so different to guys who inspired me as a kid....Elvis Presley and Fats Domino.....but my dad hated Elvis and Fatso, but loved Bing...And now , years later I can actually listen to him and other crooners of the day... ?
And I agree with Bob...ABBA produced good stuff.....in the 70's

The mention of the Beatles scared me. ???
Luckily Mozart hasn't been mentioned yet, although his band was more of an orchestra so it doesn't really qualify. ?

Theres's some timing issues at play here.
The first is to do with understanding what was going on immediately before and after some legendary artist came along and did their key work.
The musical world was very different by the end of the 1967 than it was at the start of 1964. for example. Four years and the whole game had changed almost beyond recognition. Not just changed - it was a richer, more diverse musical world. Forget about multiple styles from different bands, you sometimes got them on one record! This is why, to name the two most obvious (and deserving) examples Dylan and the Beatles are so revered. They were game changers. They kicked open the gates to hitherto unploughed fields of musical discovery.
Another is that people don't do the same thing for entire careers. If your exposure to the Beatles is your granddad playing their early hits likes "Love Me Do" and "Please Please Me" you might get some surprises if you listen to Revolver or the so-called "White Album".
Similarly, long careers are not necessarily consistent. Clapton's been at it a long time now. But rewind to 1967 - if you can - and listen to Clapton then. Wow! A completely different proposition with great fire in his playing, not to mention the music he was playing then sounds nothing like what he does now. And a couple of years earlier he'd virtually invented (or been credited with) the whole business of being a guitar hero in the first place (all three time theories in one case here).
As I said earlier not only do fame and sales not equal talent, but the two have no relationship at all. Some famous, filthy rich guys are very good, or once were. The Beatles, the Stones, Clapton, Dylan.... they have very considerable laurels on which to rest (amd I wish Paul McCartney would).
PS: You might discover that Fleetwood Mac were once a fabulous experimental blues-based band with (according to Professor S Monkey) the greatest electric blues player in the world fronting them (no... not Bob Welch) rather than the purveyors of West Coast soft rock that many of us think of now when that name cames up in conversation.

I must say, there's hardly any 'good' bands that I haven't found a way to like. Its been more difficult to 'get' some than others though. Struggled with bands like CSNY, the Velvet Underground, Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother, Pink Floyd, The Who and Cream, but now they've grown on me. I think that liking or 'getting' music has to do with how many parallels you can draw between your processes and those of whom the music was written by at that particular time. Jazz still eludes me as a whole mostly.
Over-rated bands/artists for me include Coldplay, U2, Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, Youth Group, and then almost everything that has been considered 'good' by the GP since about 1993.

Since I have to choose, it would have to be Bob Dylan and The Doors. :-[
But I find that not making enough time to listen to music properly makes most of the difference. I never enjoyed the Beatles until I met my wife. Since she's such a big fan, I was almost forced to listen to them properly. Now, I rate them very highly...
