Hi guys,

I'm looking for cabs (2x12 or 4x12) with vintage 30's in them? Anyone know any options out there for me, and where to get them?

I've seen some Orange 2x12 cabs which are very appealing, not sure who brings them into SA though and where to get them locally?

If someone can please point me in the right direction that would be a huge help.

Marshall music are the importers AFAIK and the last time i was at their woodmead branch they had these cabs ...pricey but nice kit.

      Hey

I looked at the orange 2x12 cabs at MM a while back. They're nice but I settled on the last mesa cab they had. Go to the Woodmead branch, they had a couple of orange cabs left and maybe a 4x12 mesa.
Orange and Mesa Boogie make 2x12 and 4x12 cabs with V30's. (I dig 2x12 upright cabs...) The least expensive 4x12 cab loaded with V30's as far as I know is made by Line6... (All available from Marshall Music.)
          Marshall make a 2x12 with vintage 30s.

I played one at TOMS Sandton the other day, they're the Marshall distributors in SA.

Phone TOMS Sandton, they'll hook you up with a killer price, and they have a branch in Durban.
There was a Mesa 2x12 in the classifieds section not too long ago. Fellow forumite Nicholas L ordered 2 vintage 30s and decided to build himself a cab. Another option worth considering. What amp are you looking at pairing the v30s with?

This is pretty much the most important question, even with just cabinet design, I say as a blanket statement I tend to prefer the Orange cabs to the Mesa cabs as they seem to have a better midrange to my ears though they weigh a bit more. The oversized Mesa cabs I really dislike most of the time as they tend to be a little mid scooped and voiced too dark, it's hard to pair them with an amp where you still get decent cut in the mix because of this, Mesa do however make a vintage traditional cab and that one is lovely and also V30 equipped ?

I'd say the traditional Mesa and Orange are preferable to the Marshall or oversized Mesa to me, but this is all subjective and the Orange and Mesa are more expensive than the Marshall so this is a very important factor to consider.

I've recently taken an interest in Zilla cabs who are a UK based cabinet manufacturer who can custom make you a cab in anyway you'd like and with any colours you like and they're actually quite affordable even when you include shipping, or at least if your budget allows you to go Mesa or Orange you could probably get a Zilla. Their fatboy model is really cool if you're looking for a 2x12 that sounds as resonant in the lows as a 4x12, and you can pick whichever speakers you want to go in it ?

Was it the Orange PPC212 (Closed back 2x12) or the Orange PPC412 (Closed back 4x12)? That's an awesome thing to hear as I love those cabs and last I checked they were way out of my budget ? I mean seriously they're ORANGE ?

In Durban for a Marshall cab, speak to Lee at Coastal Music (part of the TOMS group): 031 573 1818

For Orange and Mesa cabs, call Iain at Marshall Music Hillcrest: 031 765 8450

Hope that helps, if I'm not too late to the party. ?
Didn't know you get Marshall 2x12 cabs with V30's... Interested to check out how their prices compare with Mesa and Orange.
