  • A Marshall Music Blackstar Amp comp - should we support one gfsa candidate?

Another damn comp by votes. https://www.facebook.com/marshallcape/app_373795915970956

Is anyone from gfsa thinking of taking this really seriously? If so, I reckon we should all throw our weight in behind them. Not interested myself.

Competitions should be by random draw, or a panel of judges (their first PRS competition was, I believe, a caption contest selecting the best entry). This votes thing may be good for the publicity of the stores, but it's not a fair way to run a competition. They ask you to post the crazy location where you'll play this amp, but effort will not be rewarded. It's simply the number of votes garnered. So I think we should use our collective votes to win as many of these comps as possible for our long-time members.
    ? Lol. Wouldn't mind one

With the way the missus reacts to my GAS, i'll probably end up playing it on a street corner
I'm in, got a pretty cool place to play. I'm unemployed so I'd love a new toy.
Let's vote to decide which GFSA member we're all going to vote for.
It sounds funny. But that's fair. Also, I think candidates should only submit themselves if they fully intend to pursue it and garner votes like last time. No good voting for a candidate who just sits back and lets a more active non-gfsa member win.
Well, mine is up there. Jan-Louis Scheepers, Picture of the bushfelt. I know its lame, but I was in the Limpopo valley last weekend and it had the most amazing natural reverb. I really want to go plug an amp into a generator there and blast it over the bushvelt! Vote for me!
I agree. I'll support if someone form GFSA's serious about it
Cool. Maybe to be fair though, Jayhell, we wait til tomorrow morning to see if other gfsa'ers desperately want in, then we submit it either to a vote or a coin-toss type random selection by a trusted mod.

Edit: in fact the random selection my be better. Because if it's a vote, people who voted for the other candidate might not get behind the final selection.
How about we use our power as a group for good? ? Look around for a worthy charitable candidate, then we band together as GFSA and try win it. If we are successful we then donate it to said charitable case/cause.

How does that sound? Everyone knows someone in a dire situation who needs something like this (not just wants, we all have GAS), but will never have the means to buy one (or even have Internet access to stand a chance of winning it).
This is great too, Alan. But then we need to select a representative who truly doesn't want it, no? ?
Why don't we all vote for all GFSA candidates, Then it's up to everyones Facebook friends to throw the final count.

Not a big problem. I'd rather GFSA gets used that way to swing/rig votes for a cause than to swing them for a member's personal gain.

Anyway, discuss, nominate and I'll come back to it next week...
Currently there are three suggestions on the table:
                          1. We all throw our votes behind one GFSA member who really wants the amp.
                          2. We all throw our votes behind one GFSA member who really doesn't want the amp and then sells it to give the money to charity.
                          3. We all vote for all of the participating GFSA members and have their Facebook friends sort out the rest.

I am personally keen for either of these but I prefer them in the order they're listed above. The reason I like the first option is because, as Alan has said before, these competition where you win a guitar or an amp based purely on your popularity just stink. If I could do anything to rig it, I would. So I am very happy to vote for one GFSA member. In fact, think Jayhell has indicated very clearly that he is lusting for this amp and I'll be quite happy for us to support him. But, in the interest of fairness, there may be other GFSA'ers who have not yet seen this thread. So maybe we should wait until tomorrow morning and see who's thrown their names into the hat, runa quick poll and then support that guy in earnest.

I'm not saying sell it. I'm saying make sure it goes to someone worthy in need. An impoverished muso who only has crappy gear who would put it to good use. I've known more than a few in my time. ? Doesn't preclude members of course, but I think by our very nature, we are all relatively well-heeled.

Sorry, my bad. That is indeed what you said. And I'm all for that as well.
We should get on with it, there's only a week left in the competition.

                                I vote for Deefstes' #1 and #2.

and +1 Alan, we don't need to sell it, it can go to someone who has no amp. There was at least one member that posts regularly that for a year or two didn't have any instruments. If that's still the case I think he qualifies for a new amp.

                                  +1
