  • Duncan pickup comparison vid

I posted this earlier today.. This video is SO useful. I mean who has the means and the patience to test 12 pickups on the same guitar?? ☹
It will be great to see other brands tested like this, with this quality sound and riffing. ? ?
Another for those interested ? Specifically on the heavy side.

    =
We should get someone to do this with Toneriders ?
Loan me the Toneriders and I will do it ?
That's some seriously great playing ???

But a lot of these sound very, very similar to me. ?

phew, thought it was my uncultured ears ?

Had a Duncan SH-6 installed in my Dot years ago, I'd ordered an SH-4 but when my order arrived the shop said there'd been a problem and they "upgraded" my order to an SH-6. I'm not sure there could be a worse combination of guitar/pickup.

I get the Ola vid sounding a bit samey cause that guy could make a guitar plugged into a potato sound like a $2000 Mesa...

The Keith Merrow video I found the differences quite staggering and abundant in ? It definitely helped solidify my opinion that Lower Output pickups > Higher Output especially for heavy music.

There's another way of looking at it... ?

Yeah, him I liked - his tone and playing are good for the style.

I've been preaching that one for years. But do they listen? Kids today...

Some of the pickups are obviously unique sounding, like the Dimebucker for example. But for the most part, I found them very samey. Just don't think it's possible to hear the differences as clearly at those sort of gain levels.

I'm gonna disagree there, I find at high gain it's way easier to judge certain characteristics ? Also the Merrow video is heavy, but it's not really "high gain" or at least I'm sure his gain knob is only around 5 or so, admittedly on an amp that's made to have a crap load of gain on tap, but ultimately I'd say his sound is less saturated than say Nickleback ?
