Im still looking for a set of (very) budget studio monitors. Im no professional, this is me messing around in the evenings etc, I have a set of Sen HD202's I do use but I find that eveything sounds awesome on headphones and then it sounds mediocre on everything else.

So looking online I have found:

3" Driver though (frequency response: 90 Hz – 20 kHz from site), nice looking, and quite affordable. No idea what they sound like bar from attempting to youtube reviews.

Generally trying to avoid Behringer on principle, strangely the 40's are cheaper than the 20's on this site.

Samsons.

Anyone have a pair and can comment? ???
I checked out the Behringer MS40 and they are not great. Apparently the Truth series is awesome. looks like a KRK copy.

I was told to keep an eye out for studios closing down, you can get some good deals that way.

    I'm loving the M-Audios though.
Manfred, Where you get your monitors? Im seriously looking into getting the Yamaha HS80's

Do you recommend them? Pro's & Cons

i dont use them, i'm still using my KRK RP6, but i would have rather gone with the HS50's or 80's if i knew better
the reason why i like them..........well because they sound very bad, its reveals all the gritty mid range stuff that can make a mix dirty.
if you want to hear them in action, i can send you to my friends studio in cape town, he uses the HS50's and NS10's, he does pretty big film sound stuff, and he is very happy with them

this is not speakers you would want to listen music onto, but you can pull a killer mix in these speakers, taking in regard if you can get use to listening to bad sounding speakers all day long.

what is the dimension size of the room you are going to put these speakers into ? and how is the natural acoustics and reflections of the room ?
That's hardly an advert for them Manfred...
Cool, I don't know exact dimension of my room, but it is medium sized I guess. The reason why I would want the 80's instead of the 50's is that should I move into a room that is bigger, I will atleast have the right monitors - I'm only doing basic research now, but all I know is that these appeal to me the most.

@Nick. You are a gumtree wizard, I literally checked 30min before you did and I got nothing, although I think I am going to have to give those ones a miss as my budget at the moment just can't accomodate it. :'(
Probably the M-Audios. As long as you realise that they are all more good quality PC speakers than proper nearfields in that price range...

Personally, I'd probably save and wait, keeping an eye for something better to pop up s/h - but monitoring is quite high priority for me.
You can definitely get Yamaha HS50's for R3500. R6k seems crazy.

I would hold out a bit and go for the KRK VXT 4's or 6's. It's worth it.

                If not, then the HS50's.
Have you tried Noise Music store in Fourways, their online shop (www.noise.co.za) is currently under construction but they can help you on their Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/noisemusicstores ).

No, but I will have a look. Thanks
                      a month later
I know youre on a budget but im afraid that just about
every speaker recommended here besides the HS80 is a waste
of money, and you rather get a good micro hifi, usualy
made of good components and would be more suitable to what you wanna do.

honestly, in that area, there are no real monitors, you need to look way above 5k
to even get a basic home level monitor, and to go pro u need about 3 times that atleast.

the KRK 6 inch should do you great although they are no in the 1.5k mark
i think they are great value and of all the mid range they lie the least about what youre hearing.
                        Orrrrrrr

You could build some ?. Swot i'ma do..
