I finally took the plunge and bought my first all-solid wood guitar, a Tak TNV340SC. It retails for around R16k but I picked it up in absolute mint condition for R6k on JunkMail ?

Solid Bear Claw Spruce top, solid mahogany sides and back, and an awesome Cool Tube preamp. Currently strung with Elixir 13s; too bright a tone as whatever it was originally strung with when I bought it but I'm sure a set of nanowebs would make my baby sing to my heart's content.

And the best part about it? That awesome smell of actual wood when you open the case ?

Oh, and a BIG thanks to Alan Ratcliffe and X-Rated Bob for their excellent advice that led me to this purchase. You guys are legends.
Excellent Guitar, I love the Top , Bear Claw Spruce, good stuff.

12's work well on my Takamine, I have a 1990's FPR325SCE which has matured over time and it's sounding better every year.

Plug it in and see how good the higher range Takamine sounds
Wow! Beautiful guitar! You must be very stoked, congrats!
@ Rust Keep me in mind if you ever want to get rid of guitar, which won't be likely! ?

6k for that guitar is a good price if it's in decent condition. Congratulations!

What strings are you putting on? There are different compounds for acoustic strings and they do differ in sound. 80:20s don't sound the same as Phosphor Bronze. So you may experiment a little, or you may want to ask at the music shop you deal with. Changing compounds or gauges may effect the setup as well.

          Get a humidifier!
Ah, thanks dudes. All she needs now is a name and a bit more time under my fingers ?

I put on Elixir 13s; I was so giddy at Music Connection that I'm not sure if they were 80:20 or phosphor bronze, but there's no coating so they're definitely not nanos or polys. (Sorry if my terminology sucks, I haven't played in a good few years.)

The sound is a tad bright so I'm looking at something with a little less treble: would nanos do the job? And are Elixirs the best option or should I look at D'Addarios, etc?

And Bob, how important is it for me to get a humidifier? I stay in the northern Jozi suburbs so would it only be necessary for winter or should I be using one year-round?
Joburg gets D R Y in winter. You might not need that humidifier right now but I'd advise you to get one. They're not expensive.
Congrats! I'm not overly fond of the dreadnought shape, but that is a looker of note!

                Enjoy.
Gorgeous. Yes, looks like you made the right choice. Enjoy!
I'm second in line, right after Squonk, should you want to move this baby along. It's stunning! I've been wanting to get my hands on a nice Tak like this for awhile!
