Hi All
I stumbled upon the most amazing function in Reaper while looking through the Sound on Sound magazine Reaper articles online.
My mate and I have been trying to figure out how to record out practices and jam sessions while using minimal hard drive space, and Reaper can do exactly this. To give you and idea, we recorded our entire 1 and a half hour jam last night and it only used 110Mb ?.
Here's how you do it.
- Set up your mics etc and arm however many tracks you are using in Reaper
- Enable the software monitoring on all the tracks so that they go through the master
- Apply effects as you like
Here's the interesting bit...
- Once you are happy with your master mix, click 'File' and select 'Save live output to disk (bounce)'
- You'll then be presented with a window where you select your file type, location and quality, I chose MP3 and 160kbps
- Click start, then join your mates and jam, never forgetting you cool ideas ?
You won't see any recoding progress or anything in reaper while its recording, and when you are done click the 'Save live output to disc (bounce)' option again, and it will stop recording. Then browse to where you placed the file, and there you go! Simple!
I am once again amazed at the functionality of Reaper!

Enjoy, and never forget your cool ideas again! ?
