  • Attaching pedals to a pedal board without using velcro

I've been saying that I never needed one, that was until my last pedal purchase and I'm pretty sick of them just flapping around on the floor. I've been mucking around with different types and getting an idea on what I'd want. So my pedal board will probably take all of an hour to make, but I've been thinking of ways to attach the pedals without using velcro and for starters the pedals still move a bit and the only places that I've found want to sell huge lengths of more than 20m for about R150-00.

I was thinking of making little loops for the pedals that would screw into the corners of the pedal, but I was looking for an idea that was already built so that I could just buy it on the cheap instead of making my own.

Enter the bicycle chain links idea. I found these pics online of exactly what I want to do.

I reckon once you have your board sorted out, this is a great idea. I've already phoned my local bicycle shop and I can buy a length of chain for R50 with a chain breaker to break the loops for another R30. I should have mine done this weekend and I'll post pictures of it up in the gear section when it's done.
Geez, FFF, that is so neat...... cool man :yup:

Just a quick note, this isn't my pedal board, I got the pics off the web. I'm going to be using the same idea though. I just posted the pics up for refrence in case anyone else wanted to try something similar.

Very neat. The only downside - which you alluded to - is that you're not making permanent screw holes in your board. And we know that pedal boards are never truly complete.

Cable-ties are another very real option, but not nearly as neat, obviously.

I saw the cable tie route, but man that looks so redneck it's just not funny....lol.

My pedal board is a DIY one and the planks that are screwed into place are normal pine pieces that are dirt cheap, once a board starts showing holes, then you just screw out the panels and replace them. I got all my planks from a local joinery as off cuts for R20-00.
I've done this before, but moved to velcro rather... I prefer the instant flexibility of velcro - no screwing about ? to move pedals around. Also some pedals it didn't work too well with (e.g. Maxon 9 series - bottom screws are inside the battery cover). I also found it tended to scratch the pedals if that is an issue for you.

And I think velcro looks neater! But it is a good/different idea, so if it works for you go for it!

Schweet! That is well clever. Silly question for the day: Does all pedals have screw holes on the bottom in the corners? Or are you going to have to drill holes into your pedals?

I see what you did there 8)
My boss, MXR, nano, marshall and EHX pedals all have the holes in the corner, so I'm safe.

Bought the bicycle chain and the breaking tool for R80 and fabbed a set up as well as a pedal borad for our jam session on saterday, worked a treat. Looks neat as well.

So, I have about 300 links left over, so if anyone wants some, drop me a line.

                  Will post some pictures later.

Yeah, can't wait to see some pics of your pedal borad ?

How did this work out? Are there some pictures? I'm in the same boat at the moment. I find the velcro to sometimes be stronger that the double sided sicky tape and sometime the rubber or, in one case, the varnish on the board gets pulled up. So it's not as easy as just ripping the pedal off. Also if the I want to add something in or switch the pedal order around, then the bottom half of the velcro is in the wrong place, so more bottom has to go down. Also wondered about just gluing a strip of old carpet over the board. Your thoughts...
I have to admit pretty clever ? :goodtimes:
Yeah dude, how is this working for you? May be interested in some of those links if you have some left over ?
Yup, did this and posted pics in the gear section. Works like a bomb and is uber neat.

I made up a pedal board using sanded down sections of old fence posts, rubber feet with the power supply mounted underneath.

My satchurator is being bumped though......I'm looking for a delay and maybe an accoustic simulator.

Nice - probably going to start building something similar soon. I can help with the delay ? but not selling my acoustic simulator - got the Boss AC-3 and enjoying it
i like... i think im going to do the same with my pedals...

though im hesitant with my flashback.. it doesnt have screwholes....yet...

                                  Bump.

Remembered this from ages ago and just attached my new trem to my board this way. Scrounged a section of old chain that the local bike shop was chucking after a service. I don't plan to rearrange anything in a hurry so this is working great for me right now.

Thanks for the original post FFF :goodtimes:
