Did anyone go to or play in this? Was at Market Theatre last year, would love to hear what it was like...
The Bassment is Africa's very first: A 12-piece double bass ensemble. Twelve basses only. Nothing more. Nothing less.
This ground breaking ensemble consists out of 6 jazz and 6 classically trained bassists, bringing together different musical backgrounds, techniques and cultures, and producing exciting new music unlike anything that has ever been heard on an African stage. These 12 double basses not only produce an impressive soundscape, but also provide for a visually stunning and memorable performance.
For this ensemble, we managed to bring together some of South Africa's leading bass players, alongside young talent. The classical section is led by Christi-Louise Swanepoel, principal bassist of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, while the jazz section is led by Lex Futshane, one of South Africa's leading jazz bassists.
Here is a list of the other musicians:

- Nhlanhla Radebe
- Mlungisi Gegana
- Viwe Mkizwana
- Pule Lekarapa
