If it's a quality bass and you've bought it second hand at a good price, you can play it between one month and two decades and still get every rand back. Whatever cost you sink into modding it, is gone and you can't add it to any sales price. Rather save your money and buy your second good quality instrument half a year sooner.
Having more tonal versatility is nice, but you will have to ask yourself whether it is worth the dough. Like many, I made the same mistakes and now have to accept selling gear at a loss.
This is gonna turn into a debate ?
Cash spent on modding gives experience in that area so i wont consider it a waste... And if i sell i can always put the stock pups back in and sell the bass stock.. Having spare pups lying around is never a waste.. You never know when you're gonna need them in the future.. And i already wired my deposit on my bass to the music store yesterday so im past the point of turning back on the bass.. Ill play the bass for a few months before I decide to mod it.. Im just constantly brainstorming and researching.. Ill hopefully have time to fetch the bass on monday or tuesday..
